Airbus U8s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (H)
Game 1 - Airbus started on the front foot playing excellent football and scoring some very good team goals , substitutions disrupted our flow and one or two errors crept into our game .
Game 2 - The young Wingmakers again started on the front foot playing excellent football and created lots of chances thwarted by the experienced nomads keeper, good goals scored and tightened up defensively .
Men of the match Ollie Loftus hard work excellent football and great goals , and Aussie Wardle composed and determined in defence
Game 1 - Very tight affair, Airbus creating many chances with the more experienced Quay goal keeper the difference. Some really positive passages of possession. The 3-1 loss score line wasn’t a justified reflection of the performance, just a few lapse moments of concentration were costly.
Game 2 - Once again it was a half hour full of some moments of excellence. Otis running the full pitch length, skipping past the opposition to slot home an equaliser was a catalyst for an exciting last period. Some excellent forward passes and front foot football created a further two team goals. A deserved 3-2 victory.
My player of the morning was Reagan, showed a superb attitude towards defending and attacking.
The Airbus U8s delivered a fantastic performance in their latest match, showing great teamwork and determination.
Riley and Ethan were solid in defence, making key tackles, though a few mistakes led to goals for the opposition. Instead of getting discouraged, the team bounced back, using those setbacks to fuel their drive to score.
Reagan and Sandy created plenty of chances with smart passing and dribbling. Otis had an amazing solo goal, taking on four players and finishing neatly into the bottom corner. Archie also added to the tally with a calm finish after a great team move.
Despite the defensive slip-ups, the U8s kept up the pressure and scored more goals, demonstrating resilience and strong teamwork
Airbus U9s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (H)
Team 1 - The first half began and the young Wingmakers found it difficult to overcome to Nomad’s pressure and conceded an early goal.
The lads quickly responded as Harry Jarvis finished well after he was found by a wonderful ball from Oscar Davies.
Nomads scored again, however the lads demonstrated courage by scoring after Aston Jones and Ronnie Cieslewicz applied a lot of pressure in the press, allowing Aston to tap it in to score. Aston then scored again showing quick feet and a fantastic long-range finish. Roman Fryer in goal made a couple of saves in goal at an important time to maintain our lead.
2nd half - The Nomads got off to a fast start in the second half and scored early to level. Reuben Price’s forward pass to Harry Jarvis & Alfie Chambers both then scored to see us 2 in front.
Airbus created a chance with Reuben’s pass to Harry Jarvis. Harry dropped the shoulder, finds the half yard off space and strikes it into the bottom corner. Roman Fryer made further good saves and great defending from Oscar Davies allowed only 1 late goal. Well done boys on the positive outcome.
Team 2 - It was a strong start by Nomads but Airbus played their way back into the game having numerous shots are the Nomad’s keeper.
Louie Clarke managed to find bottom corner to score the opening goal for Airbus. A second followed after a high press including Regan Thomas and Louie Clarke managed to win the ball back high in the pitch and score. A positive half for the young Wing makers
2nd half - Airbus started strong, piled on the pressure and scored a goal from playing out from the back, Louie Clark slipped it across the box for Eddie Ephraim to score into the open net.
Excellent work rates shown by Teddy Collins and Oliver Shimmin who showed fantastic energy.
The young makers scored another goal playing out from the back starting with Henry O’Hare Sweetman in goal to Louie Clark, who played a 1-2 with Eddie Ephraim to place it in the bottom corner.
A good days football for Airbus U9s
Player of the week: Louie Clark – Excellent overall, caused the opposition problems and played his part in numerous goals and assists.
Airbus U10s – Connah’s Quay Nomads & Borras Park Albion (H)
The boys started Saturday with a fixture against Borras Park Albion U11s.
Going into the game we knew it would be a physical contest and one we’d have to rise to.
After defending well during the first 15 minutes, the visitors found the deadlock from a set piece which they threatened from throughout.
The second half saw us create many more chances with emphasis on getting the ball out wide early. We got our deserved goal and the match ended in a well thought draw.
MoM – James Walsh for his superb saves to keep us in the game throughout.
In our second game we came up against Connah’s Quay Nomads. From minute one the lads were on it. Pressing high up the pitch and creating a number of chances.
Nomads took the lead against the run of play but we hit back soon after with a ferocious press by Arthur who blocked the keeper’s clearance in to the back of the net.
Second half started the same. More constant pressure coming from the Airbus press. Tristan was causing danger to the backline all day and eventually got his deserved goal.
An exciting game ended in a draw, however a performance to be very proud of and on another day we score 5+ goals.
Man of the Match was a tough one here but it went to Arthur Irwin for his relentless energy in the middle of the park.
Well done boys?⚪️✈️
Airbus U11s – Connah’s Quay Nomads & Clwb Pel Droed Bethel (H)
Saturday saw us welcome Bethel to the Airfield.
Tough morning for the Wingmakers squad who struggled to get going in the first 30 minutes of football – slow starts have been a common theme lately.
The last 30 minutes saw us really come to life with some great two touch football and aggressive press off the ball which lead to us scoring lots of great goals, including great team goals.
Really tough decision for player of the match as our second group every player was superb, however George Coy piped it. Really high energy levels, always looking to play the ball forward as quickly as possible. Helping his team with a few assists
The U11’s hosted Nomads this Saturday, an overall good day of football for the lads today.
Everyone getting game time and some excellent performances to go with it. We’ve been working on the final third in training all week and it showed with some great finishing and play in attacking areas.
Man of the Match – Tyler Jones, he dominated the middle of the pitch with his brilliant play on the ball. His passing range and skills were superb. Massively deserved, well done Tyler.
Airbus U12s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (H)
U12s hosted local team Nomads. With the two previous games ending with 3-1 loses to them, the lads were eager to try and turn this game into a win.
With going 7 games unbeaten and not conceding a goal in these 7 games, the lads knew to keep it tight and carry on this impressive form.
First half the game was very even with nothing really happening. Both teams struggled to retain the ball and only a few shots on goal! Nomads did hit the inside post but the ball safely went out of play! The first half ended 0-0.
Second half was completely different! Both teams pressing each other making attacking more available.
Airbus took the lead after a Sam Makin goal from inside the box scramble. Nomads did get a goal back with a volley making it 1-1.
We then managed to score a lovely goal with a great ball from Harri Morris into Sam, who manage to play a lovely shot past the keeper to make it 2-1.
The game started to get stretched with Nomads looking for the equaliser! But a free kick edge of the box meant Harry Jefferies managed to smash the ball passed the keeper to make it 3-1. Which is how the game finished.
Man of the Match- I have to choose two players. Max Derbyshire- also looked a threat on the wing causing them trouble all game
Lucas Worral- brilliant entry for the full 75mins winning all midfield battles. Giving Nomads no joy in there!
Airbus U13s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (H)
U13s v Macclesfield Town
It was a busy weekend for the U13s with two games scheduled in for the squad. First up on the Saturday morning, we were pleased to host Macclesfield Town U13s in a friendly fixture.
On a cold blustery morning, it was the visitors who started brightly, and they got an early goal in the opening minutes when a long-range free kick proved difficult to deal with in the tricky conditions and the Macclesfield striker was quickest to the rebound to score. The early goal boosted Macclesfield, and they soon created another chance with their tricky No 10 shooting from distance, but this was well turned round the post by Airbus keeper Will Rishworth.
This didn’t deter the Airbus team though and they started to adjust well to the format and tricky pitch conditions. An excellent counterattack move soon got Airbus back on level terms, when Harry Williams finished cooly, rounding the keeper after some excellent work in midfield by Toby Owens. The scores were not level for long, when another excellent goal from Harry Williams put the Wingmakers ahead. This lead was extended when the Harry completed his hat-trick, lobbing the keeper after a lovely through pass from Arthur Williams.
The game was very even now, with both teams doing well to play some nice football on the muddy, soft pitch. These conditions caused the Airbus defence some issues in the final minutes of the half, as they struggled to clear the ball completely out of danger, and it fell to a Macclesfield player who finished well from the edge of the box. The half finished 3-2 to Airbus but the scores could have been level if had not been for a good save down to his right from James Evans from the Macclesfield No 10 once more.
The second half continued as the first, with both teams playing some lovely football and creating chances throughout, the next goal in the game came to Airbus, after a cracking cross from the left-hand side by Fynley Wardle was punched out by the keeper but Harry Williams was on hand to volley it into the net for his fourth goal of the game. 4-2.
Unfortunately, this did not put the game to bed for the hosts as Macclesfield got a goal back when the Number 10 pounced on his own rebounded shot to slot home. 4-3. It was the same Macclesfield player who brought the scores level when he broke through a number of Airbus tackles to shoot from the edge of the box into the roof of the net. 4-4. This wasn’t the end of the excitement though as Airbus were soon back in the lead when Toby Owens scored from a long-range free kick, to put Airbus back into the lead in the dying stages. 5-4.
However, there was drama at the very end, when who else but the Macclesfield number 10 again broke through to equalise with the last kick off the game. 5-5.
An excellent game of football played in great spirit from both teams. Airbus played some excellent football on the big pitch, with the build up play from the back whilst under pressure, being especially pleasing for the coaches.
Man of the Match Thomas Wright. Thomas was an attacking threat all game, whilst also working extremely hard with his defensive roles out of possession.
U13s v Connahs Quay Nomads
The second fixture of the weekend for the U13s was an FAW academy game against local neighbours, Connahs Quay Nomads, played at The Airfield on a cold Sunday morning.
The Airbus squad were looking to take their good form of the previous day’s game into the match, and they started very brightly with some good build up play against the Nomads high press.
An early goal came for the Wingmakers when Thomas Wright played an excellent through ball to the in-form Harry Williams, who struck the ball across the Nomads keeper into the far side of the net. 1-0.
After the early goal, both teams settled down and started to play some good football, with no real chances being created as both defences were well organised and stopping any meaningful attacks. It was the visitors who did eventually make a breakthrough when a loose ball into midfield was picked up by a Nomads defender, who then played the Nomads striker in with a good pass.
The Nomads centre forward did well to burst his way through the Airbus defence and finish well to level the score. 1-1. However, the scores were only level for less than a minute as straight from the kick off, after some composed play in the back from Captain Henry Carter and Goalkeeper Will Rishworth, they eventually got the ball up to Harry Williams who then returned the favour of an assist for the first goal, as he played in Thomas Wright to cut inside and score an excellent goal. 2-1.
The early stages of the second half continued to be a cagey affair, with both teams playing good football but with no real goal scoring opportunities. A third goal nearly came from Airbus when Miller Blackwell-Jones delivered a superb corner into the area, which was met with a great header from Henry Jones but the Nomads keeper produced a super save to tip it onto the crossbar.
A third goal did finally arrive when Connor Williams cleared a long ball out of defence into the Nomads half and Harry Williams won the battle with the nomads defender to get his shot off into the net. This was the last meaningful moment in the game as no further goals were scored as Airbus managed to see the game out to get the win. 3-1
Overall, a very pleasing performance from the squad, especially in the out of possession phases as they showed good discipline whilst also reacting well in the transition moments.
Man of the Match – Connor Williams. Excellent positional play throughout the game, whilst also did well in delaying the opposition attacks.
Airbus U14s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (H)
Airbus welcomed Nomads to the Hollingsworth in very difficult conditions for both sides, the wind and rain proving that the success would likely come from short passes on the floor to progress up the pitch.
Airbus started the game extremely well and the first chance come from a Nomads goal kick where we pressed hard man for man pinching the ball on the edge of the box with Jack Melia and Alfie Edwards linking up well before Joe Farrell saw his effort saved well onto the crossbar.
The pressure in the final third continued and won us a corner, a brief scramble before Lucas Braisdell tip toed in the area before placing into the corner to put the WingMakers 1-0 up.
There was no let up and we won a free kick which Joe Farrell looped over the goalkeeper and a 2-0 lead was thoroughly deserved.
Second half playing into the wind was a little more difficult, but the WingMakers adjusted well to be effective both in possession and with our shape when Nomads tried to build.
A slight lapse in concentration when we didn’t deal with the ball in a wide area, Charlie Tonge making the save but Nomads having a tap in to pull one back.
Airbus seemed fully in control and deserved the win on the day
Player of the week - Charlie Smith, Chaz slotted into the right side of a back 3 today to accommodate a change in formation and he was absolutely brilliant in his 1v1 defending, he will be the first to tell you he wants to be more aggressive and harder to beat without the ball, and we couldn’t of asked for more from him today he was solid for the whole game. Secondly to this his work ethic at training remains of the highest standard week on week.
Airbus U15s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
Airbus travelled up the road to Connah’s Quay early Sunday morning for their third meeting of the season
First half Airbus started really bright and took an early lead through Harri Edwards capitalising on a defensive mistake on 5’. The rest of the half was very mixed from the young Airbus team unable to find their usual rhythm. The hosts awarded a pen at the end of the half-finished the stronger team. 1-1 HT
Second half started very slowly for Airbus again not getting in to their usual stride. The home team score 3 goals in quick succession and killed the game. Airbus did keep trying but couldn’t link much together. At the end of the game a really positive piece of play Nataniel Rawoiecki assisted Jake Pendlebury on 74’. Full time 4-2 loss
Player of the week Jake Pendlebury. Jake constantly trains well setting high standards for himself and others. Jake ran hard for his team today. Well done Jake
Airbus U16 – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
A wet and windy day at the Quay 3G as we made the short trip to play Connah’s Quay Nomads.
The match resembled a game of basketball in the first half with both sides having chances. Stan Edwards, Kacper Bury, Harri Phythian & Frankie Axon all going close, with the opposition keeper making a couple of decent saves. Louis Brimfield in goal ensured that we didn’t concede, by marshaling the Airbus defence and managed the Nomads attacking phases well.
Evan Roberts and Fin Hayes were solid in the central area, ensuring we were tight and compact. The game was 0-0 @ half time…not quite sure how to be honest.
Second half was a bit more of a cagey affair with both teams looking to play. Nomads changed their system & we adapted well after making a number of changes. A couple of excellent tackles by Cai Williams & Harrison Mills Morgan and numerous good examples of good defending by Max Mason, Jayden Ball, Charlie Jones & Harvey O’Sullivan kept the score at 0-0, with Jacob Clement looking to get us on the front foot positively distribution wise.
The game is about fine margins and we had 2 major events. The first when the opposition keeper dropped the ball from a corner and our attempt was cleared off the line. The second when Angel Temelkov played the ball into Harri Edwards, he was clearly fouled in the box – and it could have given us a great chance to go ahead from the penalty spot. Unfortunately in injury time, Nomads went up the other end & scored the only goal of the game – the result ended 0-1.
We were immensely proud of the lads again this week. They are learning a new system, with new principles and phases of play. They played out successfully from the back on numerous occasions and mixed it up when needed. Out of possession, they are learning when to transition into their out of possession formation and then counter pressing where possible. The body language of the group was fantastic throughout, they enjoyed playing today & if they continue to take on the detail then they will improve week by week.
Player of the week: Harvey O’Sullivan – An excellent performance from Harvey today. He played in a new position, embraced the challenge and showed numerous positive examples of our advanced tactical principles. There is more to come from Harvey and we are excited to see him develop. Well done
Airbus U19s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
Airbus travelled up the road to Conan’s quay for an early kick off Sunday afternoon
First half Airbus having to deal with the conditions and the fierce winds were against us causing us to adapt and have to sit off a little more than we would like. Nomads took an early lead as the U19s failed to deal with a long ball carried by the wind. Battling against the wind meant the U19’s had to play their way forward as we could not get any rest from the pressure the opposition applied and they scored again before half time ending the half 2-0 down
Second half should have seen the U19’s enjoy the conditions change in their favour but for whatever reason it never came and the opposition broke away punishing us early in the game. Struggling to get any control and conceding a penalty it was not to be the U19’s day. Missing a penalty of our own and some simple tap ins rounded off a poor performance from the U19’s who were not at the races today and outplayed by a group of Nomad’s players that wanted it more. We scored a conciliation goal towards the end of the game through Ieuan Jones Wellstead ending 6-1 loss
Player of the week Archie Floate. Arch is a work horse in the middle of the pitch and didn’t let the conditions affect him. Arch always trains well and is a great lad to have around the squad. Thanks for your efforts Arch
U17s girls V Caernarfon Town (A)
It was a cold morning but not much wind in Caernarfon, it was a good surface on the 3G at Bwy’n Iach.
The hosts started strongly and it took our girls 10 minutes to settle in to the rhythm.
Caernarfon took their opportunity with some hesitancy at the back from Airbus. And the hosts continued playing their fast forward through and our centre half got a yellow card when fouling a player who would have been in on goal. Airbus continued to threat but just couldn’t find that final pass. The hosts went in at half time 1-0 up.
After a change of keeper at halftime, the back line mixed up a bit. Airbus then had what breeze there was behind them. Guinnie after a winding run got caught and the ref saw no advantage so gave us a free kick from about 35 yards out .
Ellie V stepped up and hit a drive that bounced just before the keeper, the keeper fumbled and Olivia followed up first to force it home.
The equaliser gave Airbus belief and forced a corner in the 63rd minute which Ellie V took and put right under the crossbar which looked as though had gone in direct but the ref didn’t blow until Jen forced home.
This definitely gave the girls the upper hand and then 7 minutes later the lead was doubled when Ellie was put through and calmly finished.
Grace had made some fine saves to keep the lead but the hosts pulled one back to make it 3-2 with 5 minutes left.
Airbus still looked dangerous on the break and Freya P just mistimed her run by a fraction and after calmly slotting home was rightly ruled offside .
Then the hosts pulled broke and equalised with 1 minute to go.
What a cup tie ! Into penalties it went . Airbus won the toss and went first .
Freya P stepped up and calmly slotted into the corner. Grace got her hands to their first penalty but couldn’t keep it out. Then Jen converted hers and the hosts put theirs over the bar. Then after Lucy and Ellie calmly despatched theirs And out hosts doing the same we had a chance to win it but Grace hit the crossbar.
The hosts scored theirs which made it 4-4 ,sudden death. Jess calmly slotted into the corner. They then took theirs and Grace pounced on it and saved it. All credit to the hosts for playing 10 v 10. But the girls showed up today and got what they deserved.
Player of the Match - Ellie V ,with 1 goal and 2 assists and some of her footwork to create space was exceptional in the busy midfield area .
