Saturday saw a very close and highly competitive game between Airbus Buccaneers 50’s v Neston Nomads 50’s in the Regional Final of The English Walking Football National Cup.

The competition is the World’s oldest, largest and most prestigious Walking Football Tournament.

Played in a fantastic manner by both teams and a great advert for what Walking Football should represent on all levels.

The first half was highly competitive and saw periods of pressure from both teams with Neston scoring the only goal of the period, Half time Airbus 0 - Neston 1

The second half continued in a similar manner with both teams hitting the woodwork and narrowly missing chances to score.

Neston were then awarded a penalty, for a player straying into his own area, that was missed.

With 5 minutes to go Airbus threw caution to the wind, started to push and put together some great passages of play.

This resulted in a great equalising goal from James Edwards.

A frantic few minutes followed with end to end football and chances for both teams to win.

The half ended 1-1 and so to the dreaded penalty shoot-out.

So Airbus Buccaneers become Regional Champions and go on to represent North West South in the National Finals in Nottingham over the first weekend in September.

A fantastic result for Airbus in their first season of competitive league & cup football.
