Gaz Edwards: Llandudno Pre Match

The defender gives his thoughts ahead of tomorrow night’s top of the table clash with Llandudno at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.

Wingmakers defender Gaz Edwards is excited about tomorrow’s potential JD Cymru North title-deciding encounter against promotion challengers Llandudno in Broughton.

Airbus know earning three points over the North Wales outfit would secure the league crown, and Edwards believes the squad are ready for the task at hand.

“It’s a big game for both clubs,” Edwards explained.

“It’s a game we’re relishing and looking forward to. We know that on our day we’re a match for any team.

“We know it’s going to be tough but if we apply ourselves right – we have done for 99 per cent of the season – we can look forward to a positive result.”

“We’ve haven’t looked further than each game ahead. You don’t win league titles looking 10 games ahead, it’s all about looking at the next team and giving them the respect and doing your due diligence on the team you’re playing.”

Steve O’Shaughnessy’s side will have the added incentive of the chance to win the title in front of the Sgorio cameras – the first time a second-tier fixture has been broadcasted on Welsh TV.

Edwards – who sat out last weekend’s victory at Prestatyn to avoid a possible suspension – is confident this factor will not change preparations.

“The cameras aren’t coming for no reason! They know it’s a big game - we’ve just got to stick to our game-plan.

“Nothing will change for us going into Friday. The cameras are there which is great, but even if they weren’t, we’d still approach it the same [way].”

Should the bus complete the job this weekend, it would mark Edwards’ third promotion from the division.

When Caernarfon Town clinched a spot in the Cymru Premier in 2018, the centre-back was part of the Cofi’s team led by Sean Eardley.

Four years on, the two great mates are pitting their wits against each other. Eardley will be in the Llandudno dug out on Friday; Edwards knows what to expect from the 33-year-old's troops.

“I know Eards [Eardley] well – he's a good friend. I know how his team will run through brick walls for him. That’s exactly what I was like when I played for him [at Caernarfon}.

“He gets the best out of every player so you know that team that turns up is going to want to work hard. They’ve got to beat us, so the pressure is on them to come and win the game.

“We’ve just got to remain calm, focused and disciplined. Those things will hopefully see us through.”
