Airbus start their season off with 7 goals and 3 points

Friday evening, we welcomed Denbigh Town to The Hollingsworth Group Stadium for the opening league game of the season.

A couple of changes from the Mold game, saw McManus return to the starting line-up after his suspension. Also, a return for Rickett who returned in defence, with Peers replacing the unavailable Palmer.

Airbus started the game on the front foot and within 4 minutes Warren had his first chance of the game. Jordan Evans delivered a brilliant ball down the left into space for Collins who found Warren with his pass. Warren took a touch and hit a shot on the turn, but the Denbigh keeper Jones made a good save to deny our No.8.

9 minutes, Warren had his first league goal for Airbus and the opening goal of the game. Some great work by Cooke who found Warren with his second attempted pass and Warren finished into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 1-0

Warren started the game lively, and a few minutes later found space in behind the Denbigh defence to find himself 1v1 with ‘keeper Jones, but Warren’s shot was saved by the Denbigh ‘keeper.

From the resulting corner, Warren found himself in a great position to increase his tally, but once again Jones denied the Airbus man.

On 26 minutes, Warren did double his goal tally and increased Airbus’ lead to 2. Peers’ hard work paid off as he forced a mistake from the Denbigh defender. Davies leaped on the loose ball and delivered a great cross into Warren, the ball hitting his thigh and looping over the Denbigh goalkeeper into the back of the net.

Warren was making himself available in great positions, a cross from Davies found Warren in space, for a free header but his effort was over.

Half an hour on the clock, and Denbigh recorded their first shot on goal. Fleming created a great position to get a shot in on goal, but he saw his effort way over the bar.

A great chance fell to Bellis a couple of minutes after Fleming’s shot, and he followed suit with a shot over the Airbus crossbar.

38 minutes and Airbus had their third of the game, when a delightful delivery from a corner by J. Evans was met by Davies and his header was perfect to give Davies his first of the game
Two minutes before half time and Davies scored his second of the game. Peers delivered a pass to Warren, who’s first touch took him round the defender and allowed him to deliver a cross into the box, which was easily tapped in by Davies.

Denbigh finished the half with a shot at K. Jones goal, but this time Lockley’s effort was just wide of the post, which saw the Airbus ‘keeper scrambling across his goal.

A good fist half for the WingMakers as they went in at half time, four goals to the good!
Airbus started the second half as they started the first. Cooke with a great run at the Denbigh full back allowed him to create space to deliver a ball across to Davies who was arriving at the back post, but his first touch took him beyond the open goal.

McManus with a run down the right, resulted in a dangerous cross into the 6-yard box but Davies’ effort was saved from point blank range.

Just past the hour mark, and Davies scored his third for a hattrick. Rickett with a brilliant pass into Peers, who on the turn found Davies. The Denbigh keepers came off his line to meet the oncoming Davies, but his superb vision and decision to lob ‘keeper gave Davies his third.

Shortly after, Warren could have had his third of the game, but his shot was straight at A. Jones.

Davies wasn’t finished at three goals. Edwards with his great vision sent a through ball to Davies whose delightful finish gave the pacy winger his fourth of the game.

Just after the hour, Peers and Davies were replaced by Baker and K. Evans.

Baker made an instant impact when his shot was saved by A. Jones

Airbus weren’t done! McManus sent a great through ball to Baker but his effort this time was over.

10 minutes remaining, Denbigh were rewarded a free kick. Brown stepped up and his effort seemed to be heading for the top corner but Airbus ‘keeper Jones denied him.

That third goal was all Warren wanted, but on this occasion, it wasn’t to be and his shot from close range was saved.

Into injury time, and Baker finished the goalscoring off for Airbus. Some brilliant play out from the back, found Collins who sent a great ball over the top for Warren. Warren took the Denbigh full back on, and his cross was met by Baker with a great header.

A great performance by Airbus, which gets our league campaign off to a brilliant start!
