Goals fest for the WingMakers

Airbus finally got their 1st game of 2025 under the belt as they made a trip up the North Wales Coast to play Bangor 1876 FC.

Mark Allen named an unchanged starting line-up after the win against Buckley Town on Boxing Day. There was a return to the squad for Ryan Edwards after an injury lay off.

Airbus made a rapid start to the game and took the lead after 11 seconds. James Davies broke down the left and delivered a cross for Danny Warren who made no mistake with a close range shot.

After the opening goal, both teams showed some very good passages of play and Bangor had a few chances to equalise.

Keighan Jones kept the hosts at bay when he was quick to react to the on rushing Mason Blackwell-Jones and timed his save to stop the Bangor No.7.

After a bit of pressure from Bangor, which Airbus did well to soak up with a mixture of poor finishing from Bangor and last ditch defending from the Airbus players.

George Peers had a great effort on 24 minutes, when he unleased a strike from 25 yards, but Bangor ‘keeper Carl Jones tipped the strike over to deny Peers.

A minute later, Bangor had their equaliser when Powell-Roberts delivered a teasing cross into the box and Corrig McGonigle was there to tap in from close range.

The WingMakers were rewarded a free kick a few minutes before half time for a block on Peers. Jordan Evans stepped up to take the set piece and his effort was saved by Carl Jones from 30 yards out.

Bangor immediately went up the other end and had a chance of their own when a McGonigle shot from the edge of the box had Keighan Jones rooted and the Airbus goalkeeper watched the shot go just wide.

Danny Warren had his second of the game and gave Airbus the lead going into the half time break. A ball was played through the middle into Warren’s path, and he rounded the keeper to roll into an empty net.

Second half and Airbus were out of the blocks once again and within the first minute of the second half, Peers met a cross at the back post but his headed was over.

Bangor ‘keeper Jones was called into action not long after, James Davies collected the ball on the right and attacked the Bangor goal but his effort was just wide of the far post.

Airbus’ pressure paid off on 53 minutes when Jordan Evans found Peers on the edge of the box, and he curled a great effort past Carl Jones to make it 3-1 to the visitors.

3 minutes later Airbus had 4, a corner was rewarded after Josh Stevenson saw his shot blocked. From the resulting corner, Josh Stevenson was allowed enough space to bring the ball down brilliantly on the end edge of the box to score his first senior goal of the season.

The Bangor ‘keeper was busy once again, when Warren tried his luck from 25 yards and Jones saved well to deny the Airbus No.8.

Just after the hour, Danny Warren completed his hat trick. This time he showed brilliant footwork to set himself for a shot from the edge of the box and this time the effort was too good for Carl Jones as he saw it settle in the back of the net.

On 66 minutes, Warren turned provider as he played a great ball into Jordan Evans on the edge of the box and his powerful shot was too good for the Jones.

With just over 20 minutes to play, Airbus made a triple substitution with Dan Collins, Sam Baker and Oli Lanceley replacing George Peers, Kaiden Cooke and Danny Warren.

Powell-Roberts tested Keighan Jones’s concentration when the Airbus ‘keeper saved well from the Bangor No. 2.

75 minutes, Jake Eyre was introduced to the game in place of James Davies who had an impressive game, recoding two assists.

Eyre’s evening was cut short as he was substituted 5 minutes later. After the Airbus No.10 made a tackle, and he fell awkwardly and was unable to carry on.

Blackwell-Jones had a great chance to give Bangor another goal, after a great run into the box but his shot was saved by Jones with his feet.

Airbus had their seventh goal on 88 minutes, when Jordan Evans was put through the middle from a brilliant pass from Dan Collins, and our vice-captain finished calmly past Jones.
