Young Wingmakers - The Academy Weekend Review

Airbus Academy Administrator28 Feb 2024 - 22:27

Matches Were Played On 24th & 25th February 2024

Matches against Flint Town Utd were played on Saturday & Sunday by most of our Academy sides. Our reserves squad also had a fixture v Gresford FC:

U10

Our U10's hosted Flint Town Utd this weekend at the Airfield. We were really impressed with the boys as they played a different way this week. The instructions and detail that the lads were given was based on this week's training. We concentrated on short, sharp &fast passes instead of looking long for the switch. I also thought that we used the GK's really well to recycle the ball, which enabled us to be dominant in possession.

Player of the week:

Leo Stanton - Great level of effort in the middle and put the ball into space for many goals.

Olly Downes - Always finding himself in great positions and playing the ball forwards.

U11

We played Flint Town Utd at home in a tight fixture which brought lots of goals the last time that we played them. We played 4 matches in which Airbus had a positive outcome across the board. Some nice football being played in possession which kept out oppositionat bay. A number of high quality goals including a goal of the season contender with some of the best phases of play the boys have carried out over the past few months. Consistency of play is something the boys again will need to work on. But very proud and happy with this weekends result and performance.

Player of the week:

Jake Xavier - Brilliant play all round! Always looked threatening on the wing.

U12

The U12’s entertained Flint Town Utd in the local derby on Sunday. After two entertaining draws this season already, the U12’s were fast out of the blocks with three goals in the opening 15  minutes thanks to a Harry Williams hat trick with assists from Arthur Williams, Henry jones and Henry Carter. We took the opportunity to make a few early changes which slightly unsettled the team allowing flint two goals from a couple of defensive errors. 3-2 to Airbus at halftime.  We asked the boys to show belief and desire in the second half to secure the three points while also managing the game better. Two goals in the second half from Arthur Williams and Fynley Wardle with assists from Harry Pae and Thomas Wright secured the deserved victory. Well done boys.

Player of the week:

Harry Williams - Quality hat-trick while playing with confidence desire and belief. Well done Harry.

U14

A busy weekend for the U14's with 2 fixtures v Henllan FC U15 & Flint Town Utd. Against Henllan we shot out of the blocks and scored within a minute as Dylan Cusato struck from 35 yards out into the top corner. Minutes later a fine pass out from the back found Nataniel Rakowiecki on the right hand side. He cut inside and struck a fine strike into the roof of the net. Max Murray then found Josh Banks in space on the left hand side and he made it 3-0. Nataniel Rakowiecki then rounded the keeper well and slotted home for 4-0. A fine forward run from Harri Edwards behind the opposition defence ensured he found a great pass for Jack Davies to tap in at the far post. 5-0 @ half time. The 2nd half saw further goals for the young wingmakers. A mazy run and inch perfect cross from Dylan Cusato ensured Josh Banks was able to volley in well at the back post. Dylan Cusato then added his 2nd and the teams 6th goal as the lads continued to be dominant. Rhys Ineson then crossed the ball in from the left hand side and Fish lept like a salmon the near post to head home. Josh Banks completed his hat-trick as he finished well on the re-bound. Rhys Ineson then scored an absolute screamer from 25 yards out that went like an arrow into the top corner. Jake Pendlebury then pressed well on the left and clinically scored across the keeper. Nataniel Rakowiecki then crossed the ball in for Fish to volley home his 2nd goal into the top corner from 8 yards out. A good run out for the lads as we concentrated on carrying out the training topic throughout the fixture. Our 2nd game saw us welcome Flint Town Utd to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium. We started brightly and should have been 2 up in the first 10 minutes as we squandered good chances. We had the majority of the possession and were awarded a penalty as twinkle toes Dylan Cusato was upended in the box. Jake Pendlebury dispatched the penalty confidently. We then had 2 more chances that we should have taken. We unfortunately squandered possession in midfield and Flint Town Utd counter attacked us quickly which saw us frustratingly 1-1 @ the break. The 2nd half followed the same format before Jake Pendlebury grabbed his 2nd of the match following an assist from Max Murray. We just couldn't score that 3rd goal to make us comfortable, and had further chances which on another day go in. We managed the game well in the latter stages and the game ended 2-1 to the young wingmakers. A successful weekend for the U14 squad.

Player of the week:

Joseph Pridding - 2 excellent performances from Fish. Found his scoring boots on Friday & his skill acquisition and decision making on Sunday was excellent. In that form he is pretty much unplayable. Well done mate

U15

The U15s hosted Flint on Sunday at the Airfield. The boys started well moving the ball building play a couple of early chances fell to Airbus that they didn’t manage to put away. The Airbus boys took the lead in the 25th minute with a through ball from Jack Griffiths to Angel Temelikov who slotted the ball home after challenging their goalkeeper to put the Young Wingmakers ahead. 5 minutes later Flint were level, from there Airbus lost their composure which Flint capitalised on and scored another 4 minutes before the break. The second half was poor from the blues they never got in their rhythm and hardly strung passes together. Flint dominated territory with most of the game in the Airbus half. A few great saves by Jacob Clement in the Airbus goal before Flint broke the second half deadlock midway through the half which dropped Airbus heads further. Flint stole another goal before the end of the game and took all 3 points away with them. Final score 1-4 Flint.

Player of the week:

Jack Griffiths - Played well, found some great passes and was very good at the heart of the Airbus defence.

U16

The final fixture of three against Flint. Flint started really well causing Airbus some trouble. With Flint being on the front foot and Airbus lacking a bit of control it opened up some early chances for Flint. Airbus were just rushing play, trying to play forward a bit to quickly which Flint dealt with that well. We looked at our best when we moved the ball with some pace and shortened the distance up. Some good phases of play in spells but overall Airbus we’re fortunate not to concede especially in the first 20. The last 10 minute of the half Airbus settled down slightly. With it being 0-0 going into half time it was all to play for. Airbus started much better in the second half, controlling the pace of the game a lot better and sustaining attacks a lot more. A few good chances were created by Airbus in the second half but we finally broke the deadlock from a corner delivered by Josh Edwards onto Harris Albiston’s head for a well taken goal. Airbus started going through the gears at this point, Airbus doubled the lead not too long through James Allen slotting home close range free kick under the wall. Airbus were unfortunate not to score from open play in the game though. A much better second half from Airbus was pleasing. A very mature and disciplined performance.

Player of the week:

Harris Albiston - A very spirited defensive performance, but also decison making in possession was impressive of when to step in or pass the ball.

U19

We travelled across to the Essity stadium  as we faced a stern Flint Town Utd side. Airbus started brightly as they were able to get control of the ball and switch play. It was in the early moments of the game when Tom Dougherty pounced on a bouncing ball to loop a strike over the opposition keeper's head and into an empty net. This ignited a fire inside the belly of the Airbus players as they continued to dominate the ball and create some excellent chances. The Flint keeper pulled of some fantastic saves to keep the score down but it was Airbus who found themselves 3-0 up at half time. It just took seconds for there to be another goal in the game as shortly in the second half, as the hungry Tom Dougherty closed down a kick from the flint keeper which trickled in the net. This was the start of what would turn out to be one of the best half’s of football the u19s side have played all season. As the flood gates opened and goals came flooding in. One after another, the Airbus front line were RELENTLESS and punished the flint defence and found themselves 8-0 up in the space of 20 minutes. It was then Dan Semple who scored with the final kick of the game to complete a dominant performance. Final score 9-0.

Player of the week:

Hugh Holland - An incredibly tough choice this week with so many fantastic performances but it’s hugh that takes it as he bagged 4 fantastic goals and numerous assists. A lad who works his socks off week in, week out. Reaping the rewards, well done mate!

Reserves:

Saturday saw Airbus host Gresford Reserves at the Hollingsworth Stadium. Airbus were keen to shake off the rust having not played for several weeks. We started very well and kept the ball very well. We went close several times but could not punish the opposition. Eventually Jake Jones opened the scoring with a good assist from Charlie Nield on 21’. After going close several more times, eventually we managed to punish Gresford with another goal on 34’ through Jay Hughes assisted again by Charlie Nield. First half finished 2-0. Keen to set the tempo in the second half the young wingmakers started quickly with Harvey Greig slotting home from Alex Sharpe assist. The opposition then caught us being complacent on the ball and punished us as we tried to play out, 3-1. After a brief spell Airbus took control over the game again and on 62’ Harvey Greig bags his second of the afternoon assisted by Alex Sharpe again. 3 minutes later Robbie Jones slots home a great solo effort on 65’. Finishing the game strongly Airbus scored again through Tom Dougherty assisted by Frankie Smith, Hugh Holland assisted by captain Williams Gordon and finally Cal Hughes assisted by Frankie Smith again final score Airbus 7 Gresford 1.

Player of the week:

Charlie Nield - Charlie had an outstanding first half against Gresford! He turns up to every training session ready to learn and has a great attitude. Well done Chaz

Well done to all our player's and coaches.
