Airbus started the season off with a win away at Flintshire Rivals Buckley Town on an overcast afternoon.
New signing Mason Blackwell-Jones made his debut for Airbus, with our other new signing Blaine Hudson starting on the bench.
Jordan Evans got us underway for the afternoon with Airbus kicking left to right. The first five minutes were very frantic as Buckley were looking to play the long ball and Airbus were trying to get the ball down and play.
8 minutes in, Tyler McManus delivered into the box which Josh Stevenson got his head to, but his header took a nick of a Buckley defender to go out for corner kick.
With 19 minutes played, Airbus had the opening goal. A cross from Kieran Evans was not cleared and our No.11 was arriving at the back post to put the ball into the back of the net.
Buckley were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box after a foul by Blackwell-Jones. Nick Grogan was the free kick taker, and his effort was blocked by a strong Airbus wall. The ball was picked up by Buckley and an ambitious over head kick by Brad Knight was wide of the target.
With half an hour played, Nath Williams picked the ball up on the edge of the 18-yard box and carried the ball out to find Jordan Evans, which he passed the ball inside into Peers who was waiting on the edge of the box. He caught the pass on the volley, but his effort was just wide of the Buckley goal.
Buckley were looking to get in behind the Airbus defence with a long ball over the top and Max Moore found himself some space on 34’ but his tame shot from a wide angle didn’t trouble Jones.
With three minutes of injury time added, Buckley were once again awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. This time Knight stood over the ball and his effort was saved by Jones to deny the ex-Airbus forward.
Airbus went into the half time break a goal up and looking comfortable.
Buckley got us underway for the second half looking to get themselves back into the game.
6 minutes into the half and Airbus doubled their lead through that man again, George Peers! Some great work by Blackwell-Jones as he played the ball into Peers and he hit a shot that was too strong for Goldston.
Knight had a brilliant chance to get Buckley back into the game when he found himself free at the back post, but his first time effort was wide.
Just after the hour, Airbus made their first substitution of the game with James Davies replacing Sam Baker. And it wasn’t long until Davies was involved in the game.
Peers with some great work and he was able to pass a perfectly waited ball into the path of Davies, and he looked destined to make it 3 but his effort come back off the post with the keeper beaten.
Peers had his hat-trick shortly after. Davies picked the ball up in space and was able to find Sam Rickett with an overlapping run, where our No.6 pulled the ball back to Peers who slotted the ball home.
As Buckley were trying to get back into the game, this opened the space up for Airbus. This time Peers turned provider with a pass into Jordan Evans, but his shot was easy for the Buckley keeper.
With 15 minutes remaining, Airbus made a double substitution with new signing Blaine Hudson and youngster Ieuan Jones-Wellstead replacing Kieran Evans and Mason Blackwell-Jones.
Keighan Jones was called into action with 2 minutes remaining of the 90, as he tipped over an overhit cross from Liam Ellis.
Airbus looked comfortable and the three points returned home with the WingMakers to open the season with an away win and a clean sheet.
