Airbus U17s secured a hard-fought 3–1 victory over Corwen U17s on Saturday in a tough and competitive fixture.
Airbus started the game strongly, dominating possession and creating several early chances, although they were unable to capitalise on their opportunities. Corwen continued to hold their own as the game progressed, but in the 34th minute Airbus finally broke the deadlock. Libby produced a great finish to put Airbus 1–0 ahead.
Just a minute later, Airbus doubled their advantage. A shot was parried by the Corwen goalkeeper, allowing Juliet to react quickest and slot home the rebound to make it 2–0 going into half-time.
The second half proved much more challenging for Airbus. Corwen stepped up their pressing and began to disrupt Airbus' possession, forcing the team onto the back foot. Airbus worked hard defensively to hold their shape and protect their lead.
After 68 minutes, Corwen's pressure finally paid off as they broke through the Airbus defence and scored to make it 2–1. With the momentum behind them, Corwen continued to push for an equaliser.
Airbus dug deep and defended resolutely, but as Corwen pushed higher up the pitch in search of a second goal, spaces began to open up behind their defence. Airbus took advantage in the final minute when Juliet broke through to score her second goal of the game and seal a 3–1 victory.
It was a determined team performance from the Airbus girls, who showed great character to withstand sustained pressure and see out a difficult fixture.
Player of the Match: Juliet — for her excellent hold-up play, bringing her teammates into the game, and her two important goals.
