Airbus Reserves began the new season with a young side full of energy and intent, producing an impressive first-half display despite falling to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Ruthin Reserves.

From the first whistle, Airbus controlled possession and dictated the tempo, creating five or more clear-cut chances in the opening 45 minutes. On another night, the game could easily have been out of Ruthin’s reach before half-time, but a combination of missed opportunities and resilient defending kept the scores level at the break.

Ruthin took the lead on 50 minutes after converting a cross from a soft free-kick. After the goal, they enjoyed their strongest spell of the match and added a second just five minutes later through an excellent piece of individual skill.

To their credit, Airbus responded brilliantly. They regained control of the game, creating chance after chance, striking the crossbar and forcing the Ruthin goalkeeper into several excellent saves. Their persistence was finally rewarded on 66 minutes when Callum Reynolds finished well after a superb delivery from Caiden Baker-Williams.

The final 20 minutes belonged almost entirely to Airbus, who pushed relentlessly for an equaliser. Despite dominating possession and creating further opportunities, they were unable to find the decisive finish, with Ruthin holding on for a 2-1 victory.

While the result was disappointing, there were many positives to take from an encouraging performance by a young Airbus side that deserved more from the game.
