Academy Report - 29th-30th March 2025

Michelle Griffiths2 Apr - 17:38

Games included Connah's Quay Nomads, Holywell Town and Llandudno

Airbus U8s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
First Quarter: The game began with a strong, competitive start from both teams. The Airbus Academy U8’s were tested early but managed to hold their ground.
After a tense first 20 minutes, the quarter ended with a 1-1 draw, with each team getting a goal. Airbus showcased solid defending, but both teams struggled to break each other down in the opening quarter.

Second Quarter: The team came out strong in the second quarter, displaying excellent teamwork and offensive movement. The Airbus Academy U8’s dominated this period, winning 8-0. Their passing was fluid, and they created numerous chances, with their forwards converting almost every opportunity. The defensive line remained tight, and the goalkeeper was rarely tested, allowing the team to build a commanding lead.

Third Quarter: Airbus continued their dominance in the third quarter, winning 4-0. The team’s cohesion was evident as they pressed high, forced turnovers, and capitalized on quick counterattacks. The opposition struggled to keep up, and Airbus Academy’s defence remained impenetrable, ensuring the team extended their lead.

Fourth Quarter: The final quarter saw the Airbus Academy U8’s experience a slight dip in performance, as they lost 2-1 in this period. The opposition showed more resilience and scored a couple of goals. However, with the large lead already built up, Airbus Academy still emerged victorious.

Conclusion: Despite the minor setback in the final quarter, the Airbus Academy U8’s produced an outstanding performance overall, securing a 14-3 victory. Their dominant second and third quarters, where they scored a combined 12 goals, were key to the win. The team’s attacking flair and defensive solidity were on full display, and they showcased great potential for future matches.

Man of the Match:
Benji Evans, excellent work rate and scored good goals .
Lucas Jones, excellent saves, good distribution and two clean sheets out of four quarters .

Looking forward to seeing more of the U8’s fantastic football in upcoming games!

U8’s had an early start away to Connah’s Quay on Saturday morning.

8’s started brightly scoring a couple of fantastic goals and restricting Connah’s quay to very little.

With no goalkeeper the lads took it in turns in goal, showing great team work and togetherness. As the game went on Connah’s Quay were able to get a couple of goals back but our early dominance had proved too much.

In the 2nd game it was much of the same with Airbus racing into a very good lead early doors, with us using our overloads brilliant to create chances. Connah’s Quay came back strong as the game went on and with the extra minutes added to the halves it might have effected concentration near the end. However the lads carries in fighting and got a couple of goals back. Overall fantastic performances and results.

Player of the week - Issac Manley
Issac had a superb game away to Connah’s Quay on Saturday. On the ball Issac was brave and confident, looking to create chances with his clever passing and getting shots off when the goal was clear. Off the ball Issac was aggressive with the press and won his 1v1 duels. Well done Issac.

Airbus U9s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
U9’s travelled to Connahs Quay for a FAW fixture on Saturday morning.

The 9’s had a few adjustments to prepare for before kick off with games being 80 instead of 60 minutes and playing with size 4 instead of size 3 balls. This reflected in the start with both Airbus teams starting slow.

However as the lads settled into the game, they started to play some fantastic football and got their reward with some fantastic goals. Airbus looked to use quick transitions once on the ball to attack the goal and found some success with it. By the end of the game, we had got into full flow and looked strong both on and off the ball. Well done lads.

Player of the Week - Logan Bell
Logan has a superb game on Saturday which backed up a fantastic performance the week before against Flint Town. Logan was fantastic on the ball creating some good chances and strong off the ball, stopping the opposition as they tried to attack our goal. Well done Logan.

Airbus U10s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
Wow, what a performance from the Airbus U10s this weekend!

The progression from the beginning of the season to this point now has been immense and the results this weekend show how far we’ve come!

We went up against a dangerous Connah’s Quay team who were well drilled and carried lots of threat going forward.

Our goal this weekend was to continue the off the ball press but to also attack quickly on the counter and create lots of opportunities in the final third.

The first game saw a tight affair with both sides getting chances early doors.
Nomads took the lead first but once we got a foothold in the game, all the chances were falling to us. Iestyn and Ellis both working tirelessly off the ball up top and then adding the quality to hold the ball and link up with the likes of Bobby, Toby and JD. After some good football, Ellis was able to slot his chance into the bottom corner to level things up. The rest of the game saw us create many more chances but we just couldn’t find the winner. A great performance and character to come from 1 goal down.

The second game started how the last one ended. The boys were playing some really good stuff and using the wide areas very well. Iestyn in the middle of midfield was a man possessed and didn’t stop! The game was very tense with neither team creating a clear chance, a few half chances but nothing clear cut.

As the game neared the end, JD switched the ball from LB to RM where Dylan slid in to direct the ball into the bottom corner! What a finish to a great game.

I was absolutely buzzing for the whole day after that hour of football and I’m sure parents were very proud too!

MoM could have gone to any one of them! But when we all sat down at the end of the match to announce the MoM, James said “Indy” and was followed with agreement from his teammates. Only way I can describe him is an absolute brick wall. Didn’t get beat once, and dominated that area of the pitch from minute 1. Was also able to add quality to play the ball out from the back a number of times! Virgil Van Peyton!!

Players of the week – Indy Peyton and Iestyn Davies
Well done to everyone ✈️?

Airbus travelled to Connah’s Quay Nomads on Saturday and what turned out to be two of the best games of the season!
First game was a great watch both teams shown their quality Nomads trying to play it out but Airbus press was excellent and wouldn’t let Nomads play it out from the back with aggression, Airbus created loads of special moments during the game we just lacked a bit of quality in the final third throughout the match. The game finished a deserved draw for both teams.

Second game Nomads started quickly but George Brooks in goal keeping us in the game making some amazing saves.
Airbus started growing momentum in the game but got caught on the counter attack by nomads, after being behind for a short amount of time Airbus found a breakthrough from Tristian being direct with the ball and striking the ball from some distance Nomads keeper made an excellent save but put the ball straight in the path of Roux who took his moment too make the score 1-1.

Both games were really close and an excellent learning curve to see what we need to work on in training to prepare us for the FAW festival.

MOTM George Brooks outstanding in both games.

Airbus U11s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
U11’s went to Connah’s Quay on Saturday to face Nomads. We were up against it with only 9 players available for 9 aside but this didn’t affect the lad’s performance at all.

The first half was outstanding, the press off the ball, when we had possession, the passing was brilliant, the team ethic was really good to see.

After a tough start to the second half with nomads scoring a few goals, again the lads shown resilience and won their 1v1 battles on the pitch. An overall positive result and a brilliant performance.

MOM – Mason Rimmer, Mason led the line excellently. The press from the front was brilliant and some of the goals he scored were great. His running in behind and holding the ball up to take the pressure of the rest of the team was great to watch. Well done Mase

Airbus U12s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
Our u12s Wingmakers had an early 9am k.o. away at CQ nomads this breezy Sunday morning.

After winning the toss we turned them around choosing to play against the strong wind for the first period.

Airbus started strong taking a goal lead after 3 minutes with a quality strike for distance. We struggled to keep possession for a period which led to Nomads taking advantage making it 1-1 at the break.

The 2nd period Airbus took control of the game playing possession-based football using the wind to our advantage. Playing with confidence Airbus had a 20-minute spell where we took 4 quality chances and eventually played out the match with a comfortable 5-1 win ⚽️✈️

Players of the week - Lucas Worrall & Hari Morris
Both controlled midfield with there physicality, intensity and calmness in possession. Both also on the score sheet with a quality finish

Airbus U13s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
Airbus Academy 13s came from behind to secure a stunning 4-2 victory over Connah’s Quay Nomads in an away fixture, showcasing their resilience and determination throughout the match.

The game started with the Nomads taking the lead in the first half, putting the Academy boys on the back foot.
However, Airbus responded positively after the break, with an early equalizer from Harry Williams bringing them back into the game.

Just as it seemed they might take control, the Nomads regained the lead, making it 2-1. Despite the setback, the Airbus team kept their heads high and stuck to their game plan. Their belief in the process paid off as they pressed forward, scoring three unanswered goals to turn the game around completely. Two from Harry Williams to complete his hat trick and one from Henry Jones enjoying his new position in central midfield.

The final whistle blew with Airbus Academy 13s emerging as 4-2 victors, much to the delight of the team and their coaches. The resilience and focus shown in this game were a testament to the strength of character within the squad. A well-earned three points on the road!

Man of the match Harry Williams with an excellent hat trick, let his head drop a little during the first half, a good chat with him at halftime and a much more positive and determined Harry took to the pitch and got his rewards.

Airbus U14s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (A)
The under 14’s made the short trip to play Connah's Quay Nomads, Airbus started well and created some excellent chances that we just couldn't quite convert
Airbus seemed to be playing the better football but Nomads went ahead when an attempted clearance unfortunately looped into the back of the net.

A short time later and it was a corner this time going straight in and Airbus could count themselves extremely unlucky to be 2-0 down, Nomads scored again before the half so it was important to stick to our principles and look to find a way back into the game in the second half.

Nomads scored again soon after the restart when we failed to deal with some pressure in our defensive third. Joseph Farrell then pulled one back and the players seemed to find some motivation to push on and look for the next goal, but once again it was the opposition who found it firing low past our goalkeeper.
Lucas Braisdell pulled one back late in the game as it ended in a 5-2 loss.

The game provided a good opportunity to sit down together on Monday and look at what we could do differently as we approach our next game on Friday evening.

Player of the match – Jack Hardstaff, with Nomads pressing high from goal kicks Jack showed excellent decision making and composure on the ball to escape high pressured areas.

Airbus U15s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (H)
Airbus U15 welcomed Connah’s Quay Nomads FC to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium on a windy morning at the Airfield.

With the wind in the first half Airbus played well and looked comfortable out of possession. We had a couple of good chances but failed to register any of them on the score sheet. Our shape was good in and out of possession as the lads took on the detail well from the start. We switched play well but lacked a bit of cutting edge in the final third. A dubious decision gave Nomads a free kick in a dangerous area and unfortunately it snuck in to make it 0-1 @ half time.

We knew the 2nd half was going to be tough against the wind and again our playing out from the back into midfield was fine, it was just in the final third where we didn’t test the opposition keeper on more occasions. This proved costly as a couple of lapses of concentration in defensive areas saw Nomads score a couple more. Our shape was disjointed in the 2nd half and the lads must learn to follow the detail throughout the entire game to give themselves a better chance of success.

Player of the week: Caiden Baker Williams – An excellent performance from Caiden in 2 positions. Defensively he was solid and looked to get forward, when possible, when in possession. He also stepped up to play for the U16 squad straight after this game and put in another great shift and can be extremely proud of his days work. Well done Caid.

Airbus U16s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (H)
The U16 welcomed Connah’s Quay Nomads to the Airfield. The lads started well and looked to take the game to our opponents.

Nomads scored the opening goal and a couple of lapses of concentration saw them take 3 more chances before the break where we should have been better. We were also down to 10 men in what was a tough 1st half.

The 2nd half was more of the same as Nomads scored 3 further goals without reply. The lads never gave up and could have scored a couple themselves but failed to convert

Player of the week: Evan Roberts (U15) – Stepped up to play after playing for the U15s and was calm and composed throughout the fixture. Looked to get on the ball and break lines with forward passing from deep. Well done Ev – he can be proud of his performance today.

Airbus U19s – Connah’s Quay Nomads (H)
Airbus hosted Connah’s Quay Nomads 19’s on a windy sunny Sunday afternoon.
First half Airbus started against the wind and struggled to settle. Both teams found it hard to get any real control. Chances came for both teams but it was the visitors who went ahead on 31’ after a scramble in the box. HT 1-0 CQN

Second half Airbus dominated possession but could not make it work for them. Few half chances and over hit passes. Overall a disappointing game. FT 1-0 CQN

Player of the week goes to Charlie Davies who managed to maintain a steady head all game and defended very well. Charlie’s presence is always positive mid-week during preparation and thoroughly deserves to be celebrated this week. Top man Chazza

Airbus Reserves – Holywell Town (A)
The Reserves travelled to Holywell on Friday night to play under the lights.
Airbus started poorly and didn’t adapt to the grass pitch well. Numerous times we attempted to play out from the back despite this not being part of the game plan. On most occasions we lost possession in our own half due to bobbles and misplaced passes. We struggled to clear the ball with correct distance which also caused problems defensively. A great pass by Josh Edwards into Jake Jones path led to Airbus’ goal. Jake crossed well for Tom Henderson to finish. All half we had a tendency to dive into tackles which is what led to Holywell’s equaliser.

In the second half Airbus stopped going to ground, mixed up their build up play and cleared the ball properly. Holywell still had chances to score but as the 2nd half went on Airbus became stronger and had chance after chance to win the game but failed to finish.

A frustrating night but Josh Edwards performance was the silver lining. Josh has impressed all week and all aspects of his game were on show. Josh deservedly wins player of the week!

Airbus U17s Girls – Llandudno (H)
It was a perfect morning for football down at the Hollingsworth Stadium, no wind and no rain.

The visitors arrived in the knowledge that nothing but a win would keep them in the title hunt .

It was a good start to the game with both teams feeling each other out without really threatening much .

There was some good wing play by the hosts and when the ball was crossed over the visitor’s keeper was quick off her line to smother the chance .

The sides went in 0-0 at half time .
Airbus changed a few players just after half time which seemed to give the hosts the impetus needed to take the game by the scruff of the neck .

The hosts seemed to be testing the visitors defence more and more and eventually a through ball was chased down and coolly slotted home in the bottom corner .

This goal seemed to create belief in the hosts as chances seemed to be coming more often but without being taken and with it only being 1-0 Llandudno still looked threatening on the break . But the Airbus defence stood firm with some great defending.

It was by far the best female match I have seen this season.

And it was great for the girls to hold out against a strong opposition. A great victory to warm up for the Coast cup final next week.
Goal scorer by Ava

Player of the week - Grace E
Grace gave an outstanding defensive display and won her battle against the winger .And even played some great through balls .
