Games this week for our young wingmakers v Newtown, Flint Town & Denbigh Town

Under 7's

Team 1

The Under 7s produced a very entertaining performance this weekend, with matches played against Flint and Cammell Lairds.

It was a difficult first match against Flint, but everyone battled well throughout. It was a strong defensive performance from Mason and Charlie, with Jorgie Lea bombing up and down the wing. When it came to scoring the goals, Teddy produced a clinical masterclass in front of goal. Overall, it was an intense first match that could have gone either way.
The second match was a different type of contest, as it turned into a physical affair against a strong grassroots side. Although it was tough, everyone fought well and stayed strong in their battles. Leo stood out in this fixture, showing no fear and driving at the opposing defenders. Owain also delivered an impressive performance, showing true desire and determination. Unfortunately, we were unable to find the net due to some astonishing saves from their goalkeeper.

Player of the Match

Charlie Gardiner

Charlie showed real class and scored an absolute rocket into the bottom corner.

Team 2

This Saturday saw our new Under 7's squad have their second fixture with a little round Robin format against Flint Town and Cammell Lairds Under 8s. The Young Wingmakers were split into two squads, with coach Lee Starkey taking a squad to play Cammell Lairds in the first game. In the early stages, the age difference was having an effect, due to the physical advantage, but the young wingmakers adjusted to that and started playing some good football. Benny Pennington, Thomas Roberts and Henry Creer were all working hard throughout the game out of possession, looking to win the ball back quickly and break up attacks, with Leighton Walker, Hunter- Rose Perry and Oakley Roberts doing well in possession, with some excellent passing. Due to no goalkeeper available on the day, the Airbus players rotated in goal throughout the games and Cammell Lairds took advantage of this to score a few goals. However, Airbus also had some very promising attacks, but the good opposition GK did well to save plenty of our shots. Airbus did eventually get some reward when Benny did well down the left to cross to Henry to finish.

The second game against was very similar to the first, with both teams playing some excellent football but Flint also had the benefit of a good GK which was making the difference. The second half was a very close affair as Airbus continued to work hard, showing good confidence on the ball and this led to a couple of goals from Leighton and Henry.

Overall, a pleasing performance from the squad in only their second game.

Under 8's

Airbus Under 8s v Flint Under 8s

Airbus Under 8's enjoyed a strong set of fixtures against Flint, showing great effort and teamwork across both teams.

The Makers experienced mixed results, recording an impressive 4–0 victory with confident attacking play and solid defending, before narrowly losing 1–0 in a scrappy, hard-fought affair. The game was competitive throughout, with challenges flying in and tempers beginning to fray on both sides, but it provided a valuable learning experience for the players.

The Wings produced two excellent performances, securing 4–2 and 2–1 wins. The team showed good movement, resilience, and determination, particularly when under pressure, and were rewarded with well-taken goals in both games.

Overall, it was a positive morning of football with strong attitudes, good sportsmanship, and plenty of learning moments for all players.

Under 9's

Airbus Academy Under 9s vs Flint town Under 9's

The Airbus Academy Under 9s were split into two teams and produced a strong overall performance against Flint.

On one pitch, the boys did really well to get their passing game going and took their chances effectively. On the other pitch, they created several good opportunities, but the opposition goalkeeper was in excellent form and denied them on a number of occasions.

Missing our usual big defender made things more challenging on one pitch; however, Elliot Fawcet stepped in brilliantly, putting in a strong performance and earning the Player of the Match award for his team. On the other pitch, Aussie Wardle and goalkeeper Zak Shields were outstanding, conceding just one goal—which unfortunately came from an own goal following a headed clearance.

Overall, there were some excellent passages of play, well-taken goals, and solid defending across both pitches.

Well done, boys!

Under 10's

Airbus Academy Under 10s vs Flint town Under 10's [/b]

The Under 10 wingmakers welcomed flint this Saturday morning.

Our u10s played some good football looking to play to feet and on the ball produced a very good performance with moments of brilliance.

Resulting in plenty of goals that were shared throughout a lot of the team on a very successful morning.

However our wingmakers weren’t just successful up the top end of the pitch we also were excellent at maintaining discipline and focus in our defensive third by dominating individual battles.

Players of the week

Harvey Black

Harvey made a clear impact in Airbus’ energy levels on the pitch due to his relentless pressing and ruthlessness in front of goal.

Charlie kearns

Charlie dominated his defensive 1v1s all over the pitch throughout the whole morning as well as also producing 2 wordie strikes where 1 resulted in an important goal.
Well done boys

Under 11's

Airbus Academy Under 11's vs Flint town Under 11's [/b]

The Under 11s side produced a fantastic performance at the weekend, showing energy, creativity, and real teamwork from start to finish. Right from kick-off, the team pressed high and created numerous chances, keeping the opposition on the back foot.

The first game saw some brilliant passing moves through midfield, with several shots narrowly missing the target. The defence stayed alert to break up counter-attacks, and quick transitions kept the pressure on. It was a game of two halves as the wind was against us in the second half which saw us sit back and invite pressure, minimising our attacks and possession.

In the second game, the intensity continued. This time starting against the wind and little under pressure, we dug out to get to half time 0-0. We knew we’d get chances in the second half with the wind behind us. Our wingers drove forward with confidence, and Connah linked up well to carve out more opportunities. Despite not converting every chance, the commitment and attacking intent were clear for everyone to see. A scramble on the line meaning we got a deserved goal!

It was a great all-round display, in both defence and attack. All with a depleted squad with no subs on the day.

Under 12's
Newtown Under 12 1 -7 Airbus Under 12

A long journey to Newtown for our final league fixture, and the boys delivered a performance worthy of a team fighting to stay at the top. With barely 10 available players and only one substitute, the challenge was clear: win the game and score as many goals as possible to continue our two-month run at the top of the table and extend our unbeaten streak to 10 games.

First Half

We started slowly, with Newtown looking the better side in the opening stages. Our passing wasn’t sharp and we struggled to settle.
But after around 20 minutes, the boys clicked into gear.

What followed was a brilliant spell of attacking football, Four goals in a row from Mason Rimmer, 2 assists from Will, 2 assists from Archie

This explosive burst put us 4–0 ahead before Newtown pulled one back from a corner just before halftime.
HT: 4–1 Airbus

Second Half

The second half was complete domination from start to finish. We controlled the ball, moved it quickly, and created chances at will. Rimmer added two more goals, assisted by Blake and Archie
The game finished in style with a brilliant team move ending with Kian scoring and Blake providing the assist

FT: Newtown 1 – 7 Airbus

A fantastic performance, a big win, and exactly what we needed to keep ourselves at the top of the league heading into the final day in February. Outstanding effort from every single boy.

Player of the Match

Mason Rimmer

Mason continues his sensational form and is now the league’s top goal scorer with 25 goals. Today he scored an incredible six goals and could have had even more.
His work rate, pressing, and hunger for the ball were unbelievable from the first minute to the last.

Well done, Mason — outstanding.

Brilliant win, boys. Proud of every one of you.

Under 13's

Newtown Academy Under 13's - 1-3 Airbus Academy Under 13's

As we kicked off hoping for a fast start Newtown were on the attack and a defensive error saw us 1-0 down within the first minute.

As the game settled we started to take control creating chances but their keeper was having a great game to keep us from equalising.

After 20 mins we made 5 changes which saw the intensity lift further and in the 24th min Max broke the lines with a creative pass which saw Freddie Rawson us his pace slotting home 1-1. The game then opened up with many Individual battles all across the pitch fighting for possession.

HT 1-1

The 2nd period started where the first half ended but as per our brief we slightly changed formation and started to create chance after chance but struggled taking any!

In the 50th min Peter won back possession in the cdm role and drove forward with pace & aggression with his shot saved Zach showed composure to finish a low drive take us 2-1 up. In the 62nd min the ref gave Newtown a dubious penalty decision for a suspect hand ball of which the pen was missed. From the goal kick we had an overload on the right side which saw Lucas play an inside pass for Max to hit home with power 3-1. Airbus constantly fought for every ball to gain possession and drive forward at every opportunity but couldn’t find another goal they deserved.

Full time won 1-3

Overall a great performance as the lads showed character after going down in the first minute and kept there discipline in a tough aggressive match. They all gave there all in a well deserved result.

Player of the match

William Hughes

Difficult decision as some great performances from many but will award to
William Hughes who came on in the 21st min and his energy levels & enthusiasm lifted the squad to play with pace and confidence which changed the whole game for us.
Well done Will.

Under 14's

Newtown Academy Under 14's 0–2 Airbus Academy Under 14's

A late away trip to Newtown under the lights was a new experience for the boys.

The first half was a real battle. We limited Newtown to just one corner, showing good organisation and work rate, but we struggled in the final third, playing too many balls in behind against a very high defensive line. Just before half time, Mauro played Daf in, and Daf drove into the box before smashing the ball home for a well taken solo goal.

At half time, we spoke about not forcing the ball and making better decisions in possession.

The second half saw us move the ball better, but the game became stretched. We pushed for a second goal while Newtown searched for an equaliser, and at times we gambled by going man for man at the back. Alfie made several excellent saves to keep us in the game. We created a few half chances but again lacked the final pass.

With only minutes remaining, Mauro was fouled around 25 yards out. Macsen took the free kick, which was comfortably saved. A few minutes later, we broke down the left again and Ted was brought down about 20 yards out. Macsen stepped up once more, and after encouragement to test the keeper, he delivered a superb free kick that curved onto the inside of the post and in. Shortly after the restart, the final whistle blew.

It was a very physical encounter, and overall we were pleased with the boys’ work rate and commitment.

Player of the Match

Macsen Baker

Macsen led the team well and capped his performance with a brilliantly taken free kick. Well done, Macsen!

Reserves

Airbus Reserves v Denbigh Reserves

On a blustery afternoon at the Airfield, we welcomed Denbigh Town FC Reserves to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium. We expected a tough match as our opposition are a well organised outfit who performed well on their last outing.

The Young Wingmakers fielded 5 x U16 players in our starting line up and took the game to our opponents from the 1st whistle.

Franek Sadczuk went close in the early stages before a Liam Taggert header crashed against the bar after fine work from Dylan Cusato. Alfie Campbell looked to get forward and support on the left and played in a cross to where the header from Ben Williams just evaded the onion bag.

Our pressure eventually told on 21 minutes, when debutant Sam Ibbitson passed the ball to Ieuan Jones-Wellstead, who beat his man on the right hand side, crossed the ball into the area for Ben Williams - who volleyed the ball into the bottom left hand corner using excellent technique.

It was 2-0 five minutes later when again on the right Ieuan Jones-Wellstead encouraged Dylan Cusato to beat his man, which he did using great feet. He then crossed the ball into the front post area where a well timed run from Liam Taggert enabled him to slot the ball home first time into the bottom corner.

An excellent save by GK Jacob kept the score at 2-0 @ half time.

In the 2nd half, we soaked up a bit of pressure and looked to gain control of the game. Fin Hayes stood up to the physical challenge in the centre of midfield and ensured that we had a physical presence in the middle of the park. Once the lads settled down, we again made numerous chances, but were thwarted by the Denbigh keeper.

On 62 minutes an excellent move from back to front saw Jake Pendlebury beat his man on the left hand side, play an excellent cross into the path of Dylan Cusato who smashed the ball into the top left hand corner from 12 yards out. A fine team goal. 3-0

Nice play between Cam Meredith, Fin Hayes, Jacob Clement & Dylan Cusato in defensive areas found Jake Pendlebury in acres of space in the opposition half. He in turn played in (our 6th U16 player involved in the fixture) Callum Reynolds, who slotted the ball home 1v1 on 65 minutes with his first touch. A great confidence booster for Callum who finished clinically. 4-0

We could have scored more goals as we made many chances in the final stages of the game, we looked dangerous on the right hand side as Harry Henderson looked to get forward and create - but it was our opposition who scored the final goal of the game - which to be fair was a fine finish from the Denbigh lad.

The game ended 4-1 to Airbus, an excellent performance at times with plenty of quality on show.

Player of the week

Dylan Cusato

Excellent throughout, caused the opposition problems with the bravery of his passing in the centre of midfield. Looked to get forward to support in the final phase, grabbed an excellent assist and scored a fine goal in the 2nd half. He certainly can be very happy with his afternoons work as the opposition couldn't get near him at times. Well done Dylan. MP
