Airbus Academy Report – 11th-15th September 2024

Michelle Griffiths18 Sep 2024 - 18:41

Games including West Bromwich Albion, Crewe Alexandra and Flint Town United FC

Airbus U8s – Crewe Alexandra (A) & West Bromwich Albion (A)
The u8’s had a very busy week with two prestigious away trips to Crewe Alexandra and West Bromwich Albion.
A small squad took the trip to Crewe for a 7v7 game, the boys started brightly going into a 2-0 lead with goals from Elliot Fawcett and George Gray
Several positional rotations and changes upset the flow slightly which allowed Crewe to draw level before what looked like a winner from Elliot Fawcett to make it 3-2 to Airbus, a late equaliser meant an entertaining 3-3 draw.
Saturday the whole squad made the trip to West Brom for two 5v5 games, the boys were excellent on both pitches from the first whistle, passing and moving and switching the play at will, lots of excellent goals scored, stand out players on the day were Archie Cormack and Benji Evans
Well done boys!

Airbus U9s – West Bromwich Albion (A)
Our u9 young Wingmakers travelled to West Brom Academy this weekend playing 2 x 6v6 format matches vs Pro club opposition.
After a slow start taking time to adapt to the conditions & rules Airbus showed their qualities & strength playing fantastic football at pace along with being clinical in front of goal. Tough fixture at a great venue as expected and came away with success.

Airbus U10s – Flint Town United FC (A)
The under 10’s travelled to the Essity stadium to play Flint, looking to make some adjustments on the previous week at CQ Nomads.
There was a fantastic start to the games with early goals being scored through neat combinations to enter the final third and finish.
This continued throughout the morning across both matches and Airbus displayed the high quality they have proven they can deliver and we are starting to see that more consistently now.
Again changing the point of attack regularly to attack the weak side of the opposition and exploit the space the hosts had left for us.
Passing combinations to progress through the thirds enabled us to create chance after chance and the players played with freedom throughout the morning, one squad not conceding a goal, showing how well they defended as a team which was just as important to them as scoring.
There were several goal scores throughout the morning which was great to see and all players contributed to an enjoyable time out on the pitch.
Players of the week – George Brookes – reaction saves to protect his clean sheet, and distribution. George is showing us what a key part of the team he really is, his performances are getting better week on week and displays excellent confidence in achieving that.
George Graydon – tight to his man early to win 1v1 duels, quality with his build up play to find spare players in midfield and a phenomenal goal from near 20 yards into top corner
Roux Ithell – Roux showed excellent decision making with the ball and looked confident going forward at every opportunity, full of energy, he was effective in his 1v1’s and really made an impact on the game

Airbus U11s – Flint Town United FC (A)
The young Wingmakers had a fast start and displayed a clear identity to their football with and without the ball.
The build out play was fast and effective from the off, playing through the thirds with some neat passing to consistently break lines and probe the final third of the opposition.
Some individual excellence combined with combinations in key areas of the pitch provided success throughout the morning
Players of the match – Kai Adams
Lead the line superbly, Full of energy which helped chase down the ball at every opportunity. Kia was linking up with teammates and also produced individual brilliance.
Tyler Jones - Controlled the game throughout with a great display of changing direction and playing the ball in the dangerous places. His quick decisions gave him shots on goal and made it very hard for the opposition.

Airbus U13s – Flint Town United FC (A)
The 13’s took the trip to Flint and the eventful week earlier took its toll on the squad, conceded an early goal from a set piece letting the ball bounce in the box from direct play from flint
A second goal conceded from another set piece when our goalkeeper was hampered by two flint players at a free kick missed by the young referee, to the boys credit we continued to play football from the back looking to break lines against the aerial bombardment from the flint team.
A late third goal was conceded at the death while we were trying to push for a conciliation goal, the boys will need to learn to play against teams with a long ball physical strategy while still maintaining our own pass and move style of play .

Airbus U14s – Flint Town United FC (A)
The under 14’s travelled to the Essity stadium to play Flint in the fourth round of games within the academy cup, looking for 4 wins from 4, following a solid week of training there was an unusually slow start to the game from the Wingmakers, flint finding some success in the middle of the pitch, where we seemingly left gaps and were susceptible to split passes.
It was a half that didn’t create a great deal of final third action from either team, Flint with the best chance of the game when their forward player attempted to poke home a chance that Charlie Tonge expertly tipped around the post.
In for half time we gathered our thoughts and agreed there needed to be some tightening up in the middle of the pitch if we were to find our usual rhythm that would cause the opposition problems.
Another rotation in roles, as we did with last weeks Nomads fixture, sparked a fantastic reaction from the players that saw us work the ball well and utilise the space on the pitch, the players looked to overload the central area of the pitch where we worked the ball in triangles to move Flint out of position and attack their final third.
Joe Farrell proved pivotal in the success we were now finding with his quality on the ball and ability to find his way out of high pressured areas.
Harry Williams, for the second week of being given the opportunity to play up a year, found himself with a shooting opportunity on a tight angle and rifled his shot past the goalkeeper at the near post with the power of the shot taking it beyond the keeper.
The players now had the confidence to really dominate possession and probe the final third, ten minutes after the first goal, Noah Al-Dulayymi found himself in a dangerous position and was brought down inside the box before he calmly slotted home the resulting penalty.
We continued to play our way, patiently and positively working the ball well before we again found Harry Williams in that left channel, this time his shot going across the goalkeeper and into the far right top corner for his second of the game. It was now very much different to the first half and we saw the game out comfortably.
For the coaches Alex and Marc, the second half performance was a very pleasing one, showing how they can react to changes and particularly how the players looked to protect their clean sheet in the latter stages of the game. Which is now their third successive clean sheet.
Player of the Week Joseph Farrell – Joe has had a really solid start to the season in the first few games and today was no different, in the second half we asked him to play a different role for the team and he gave us quality feeding the wide players where two of our goals come from, he did his duties in our defensive third as well breaking up play and allowing us to progress up the pitch from pressured areas

Airbus U15s – Flint Town United FC (H)
The U15’s welcomed Flint Town Utd FC to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium on another wet & grey day in the FAW Academi.
Airbus started off confidently and looked to take the game to our opponents. In a first half with only a few chances at either end, the young WingMakers went close through Jake Pendlebury & Alex Mossman, whilst Bailey Davies made a good save at the end of the 1st half.
The 2nd half was more of the same, but the Airbus lads were in control of possession, without showing the cutting edge that was required to break the deadlock. The only goal of the game came through the ball being passed out by GK Jack Booth into the feet of Sam Ibbitson, who played an excellent ball in behind for Harri Edwards to run on to.
He was too quick for the Flint defender as he was able to get beyond his opponent and fire a powerful shot across the keeper, who made a good save only for Max Murray to add to his season tally to slot home the rebound at the back post. We could have had a couple more, but also Jack made a good save to ensure the clean sheet.
Not the most convincing performance that Airbus U15’s will demonstrate this season, but they got over the line and gained a positive 1-0 result.

Airbus U16s – Flint Town United FC (H)
The U16s hosted Flint on a wet and windy Sunday morning in September.
The game started off pretty even with Airbus dealing with Flints strengths pretty well.
Airbus looked a big threat on the break making some good decisions and getting into some good areas. Both teams created one or two decent chances in the first half but neither team were able to capitalise.
Evenly matched the score line at halftime was 0-0.
Airbus had a bright start in the second half getting two early free kicks in very good positions. Airbus took the lead after playing their way into the box with Fish making a good decision to play a pass into Josh, who found a fantastic pass to Stanley Edwards feet who turned on the edge of the box well and finished it off.
Flint continued to try & put pressure on Airbus but Airbus defended really well.
Airbus looked a big threat on the break but couldn’t extended their lead after creating some very good chances. Pleasingly Airbus weathered the storm but was also still a threat. The attitude on every player today was top draw. Extremely proud of how the lads today and thoroughly deserved that.
Player of the match – Charlie Jones
Led by example with his performance today. Defended exceptionally in his 1v1 battle. Encouraged and supported his team mates when needed.

Airbus U19s – Flint Town United FC (H)
Airbus welcomed Flint to Hollingsworth Group stadium on a rainy Sunday afternoon
The opposition started on the front foot and ran hard from minute one
The young Wingmakers managed to get a foot in the game and started to create a few chances. Several chances passed us by and Airbus could not seem to find the net
Towards the end of the first half the visitors won a penalty and scored at the end of the half. 1-0’ Flint HT
Second half Airbus, started the brighter of the two teams again creating chances early on. The visitors had some success playing direct and Airbus remained frustrated
Again turning the screw Airbus kept asking questions of the visitors creating several chances but just couldn’t seem to capitalise
Final score Airbus 0-1 Flint
Player of the week goes to Sam Fenney. Sam has had a fantastic start to the season. Sam has spent a lot of time with the first team environment and it shows in his confidence on the pitch and around the club
Sam deals well under pressure and his decision making improves every time he steps on the pitch. For a young GK Sam is mature beyond his years. Well done Sam
