Michelle Griffiths5 Feb 2025 - 21:55

Games against Flint Town United FC, Ruthin Town and Llandudno for our Tong WingMakers

Airbus U8s – Flint Town United (A)
The young wingmakers started on the front foot playing excellent one and two touch football and never really looked back, over the four quarters the football was exceptional, never looked in trouble scored ten goals with none conceded.

Kian in goal was unbeatable and started a lot of good plays with his excellent distribution, Aussie, George S and Elliot were unbeatable in their defensive roles over the 60 minutes linking up well with Benji , Ollie and Reagan in their attacking roles.

Really pleasing to see the boys putting into practice the things we work on in training .
Players of the match - Kian and Ollie
Well done boys

Flint (a)

A strange start to the game going 3-0 down after 5 minutes, the boys warmed up and played some outstanding football for the remaining 25 minutes of their first game.

Possession, player rotation and individual moments of skills were all on show, many attempts hitting the posts meant we fell to a 4-2 defeat of which the display didn’t deserve.

The second game was a dominant performance. Marshalled at the back by Ethan Molyneux and George Gray really showing the ability to play the link between midfield and the higher position of a diamond. Riley Jones really understanding switching play and recycling possession added with Otis Coverley being a constant threat running at the defence and delivering crosses meant we came out on top, winning 2-1.

A pleasing morning of football.

Players of the day were Ethan & Otis

Airbus U9s – Flint Town United FC (A)
U9’s travelled to Flint town on Saturday morning to play in 5v5 matches. Airbus has been working on defensive actions during the week and looked to put that in action on the pitch in Flint.

The Wingmakers started off well scoring some great goals including a superb hat-trick from Alfie Chambers.

As Airbus went into the 2nd set of games the quality, we had set in the first games dropped a little and we let Flint get back into the game.

As the game ended, we all agreed that some of the football we played we great and we were happy with how we adapted to pitch/goals we weren’t use too. Well done lads on a good week in both training and match.

MOTM’s was Alfie Chambers for a great hat-trick in the 1st game. Including a half volley that flew into the top corner.

Roman Fryer received MOTM on the other pitch with some key saves to keep his team in the game.

Airbus U10s – Flint Town United FC (A)
Airbus took the short journey to Flint Town United this Saturday.

With the bare 14 we went in to the game with no subs so the boys knew they were in for a tough game and had to conserve energy when they could. Because of this, emphasis was made on switching the play and keeping possession of the ball. This was clear to see from minute one. The boys were moving the ball quickly with ½ touches and created a number of opportunities.

Our second game was a joy to watch. The boys were determined to come away with a win and by scoring 5 goals in the first 15 minutes they we were well on their way.
Some superb goals on display – team goals, individual goals, worldies, it had it all! Pick of the bunch coming from Bobby Dazzler who danced past 3 players and riffled into the top corner.

So hard for me to pick just one MoM as all the boys deserved it, I’m sure you’ll agree!
MoM – JT. JT didn’t put a foot wrong all day. He made the right decisions when keeping possession of the ball and started many attacks from his defensive role.

Match Report:
Outstanding performance from start to end today, Airbus have carried on their impressive form with a great win against Flint.

Airbus kept control of the games playing it out from the back and then looking to move the ball fast going forward, Airbus started moving the ball a lot quicker and pressing Flint high up the pitch which created a lot of chances for Airbus and scoring some brilliant goals from Ellis, Roux, Hudson,Charlie and Hugo.

Airbus finished the games very strong and finished with a comfortable victory.

MOTM (game 1) Ellis-pressing and defending actions off the ball
MOTM (game 2) Roux-Dominant in midfield
Well done lads

Airbus U11s – Flint Town United FC (A)
After a slow start to begin with, in the first quarter we made a few bad decisions in the final 1/3rd of the pitch.

We had a word with the players in the break, which helped us move the ball more quickly and mixed it up. We also kept a better balance and more compact in a defensive unit which allowed us to counter press Flint every time they lost the ball.

Second game Airbus started the game exactly how I asked them with high intensity and aggression which unsettled a well organised Flint side.

MOTM Mason Sutton
In a match where every player gave their all, one individual stood out
Our goalkeeper, who deservedly earned the Man of the Match.
When called upon Mason produced some unreal saves including 1v1 situations. Mason distribution was really good, he mixed it up with short- and long-range passes. ✈️

Airbus U12s – Flint Town United FC (A)
Airbus lads took a short trip to flint. The game is always tricky as flint like to make games scrappy and feisty! The lads did really well to put up with the physical battle! Football wasn’t on flints minds during the game, they wanted to make it as tight as possible for the lads!

We managed to take the lead in the 11th minute from a rebound shot from Olly Moore. The game then was tight throughout with our keeper Arjan managing to make some brilliant saves. Keeping the ball out of our net with some fantastic saves!

The game ended 1-0 with another great display of defensive work. Yet again another clean sheet!

MOTM Arjan- some excellent saves keeping the clean sheet and making some unbelievable saves

Airbus U13s – Flint Town United FC (A)
The boys travelled to Flint for a morning fixture missing our first choice central defender, the boys took a little while to settle and get their passing game going, going down to an early goal after a good save from Will only for flint to react quicker and score the loose ball.

The Airbus boys played some good football in the middle third with quick one and two touch football but every time we made a mistake the bigger more physical flint players punished us time and again over the 70 minutes.

The young Wingmakers created plenty of chances thwarted by the flint goalkeepers, the bigger more physical flint players punished every mistake we made.

A disappointing loss and failing to score again against this flint team this season.
Man of the match - Connor Williams worked tirelessly in a central defensive role .

Airbus U14s – Flint Town United FC (A)
The under 14’s had a tea time kick off this week looking to build on last week’s success and a solid week of training.
From the outset it was clear Flint had a game plan of sitting in a mid-block and looking to set up a counter in the transition.

The Wingmakers saw a lot of the ball and had to really work the ball side to side efficiently and be patient in waiting for the space to open in the wide areas.

It was a difficult task to begin with but we found our feet and switched the ball to the right channel, Flint closed the space down quickly until we worked the ball out and that allowed Joseph Farrell some time on the ball to get himself into a shooting position of which the Flint keeper produced a fine stop with Junior Kelly reacting quickest to slot the ball away for a 1-0 lead.

Into the second half and the game opened up, Airbus now getting themselves into the final third more often and creating so many chances it seemed it was just a matter of time.

The second goal finally come when we got a 1v1 in behind and Charlie Tonge finished well for 2-0 to Airbus.

Maybe some complacency crept in and we became a little sloppy with ball retention but over the 70 minutes the players did well to keep a clean sheet and get the job done.

Player of the week - Myles McElmeel
Myles has had a really good attitude at training of late and has taken on board some detail from coaches on how to improve his individual learning outcomes, this showed yesterday where he was always on the front foot to recover the ball, and understood the tactical aspect of our shape really well which led to a positive performance from him.

Airbus U15s – Flint Town United FC (H)
Airbus hosted Flint Town Academy Sunday morning at Hollingsworth Group stadium

First half started very scrappy for both teams. No one could really get control of the game. Eventually Airbus broke the deadlock and Max Murray on the 11’ assisted by Harri Edwards. Flint hit back minutes later with an equaliser. Neither team really did enough in the first half. 1-1 HT

Second half Airbus started much brighter and hungrier and started to dominate possession of the ball. Scoring early in the second half Dylan Cusato on 49’ assisted by Billy Allen. Soon afternoon 54’ Harri Edwards scores assisted by Ben Roberts.

The opposition fought back a little and recovered a goal but the young winemakers hit straight back with a fantastic goal for Caiden Baker Williams on 67’. Creating chance after chance we could have scored a bag full. 75’ Caiden Baker Williams opens to grab a brace assisted by Joseph Pridding. Final score 5-2 Airbus

Player of the week this week goes to Caiden Baker Williams. Caiden is a quality player and trains and plays with a great attitude. Great to see him play higher up the pitch today and get his just rewards. Well done Caiden, keep it up

Airbus U16 – Flint Town United (H)
After last weeks performance v Nomads that showed improvement throughout, the U16’s welcomed Flint Town Utd Academy to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium – hoping to keep the momentum going.

Unfortunately it went the opposite way as a sluggish start and a couple of lapses of concentration saw the lads 0-2 down after 10 minutes. They settled down & looked to try and play themselves back into the game.

However in possession they struggled to pass the ball into forward areas with any purpose and looked lackluster throughout, but on a positive note they dug in and didn’t concede any further goals and it remained that score at the break.

We needed a reaction in the 2nd half and unfortunately a number of errors & lack of transition resulted in further goals being conceded. We had a couple of ‘half’ opportunities to score but we couldn’t take our chances. We did score one goal when Stanley Edwards pinched the ball of the opposition keeper and calmly rolled it into the net.

A tough one for the lads to take but they will hope for a positive reaction away at Newtown next weekend.

Player of the week: Stanley Edwards – Worked tirelessly all game up front and eventually got the rewards for his work rate. Very impressed with his attitude on a tough afternoon.

Airbus Reserves – Ruthin Town (A)
Airbus Reserves travelled to Ruthin on Saturday. The first half was dominated by Airbus but three mistakes lead to three goals conceded. Airbus didn’t adapt to the conditions very well and Ruthin’s defence held firm.

In the second half Airbus started playing the conditions better and created chance after chance.

A corner from the excellent Josh Edwards was met by Harvey Greig for goal number one. Shortly after same combination led to goal number two.

On 81 minutes Franek Sadczuk equalised. Airbus created numerous chances to win it and with almost the last kick of the game Harvey Greig completed the comeback and his hat trick.

Player of the week goes to Josh Edwards. Josh has had to adapt to numerous positions this season, has never complained and has excelled. A massive performance Saturday too!

Airbus U17 Girls – Llandudno (A)
Airbus U17’s girls travelled to Go Goodwins stadium in Llandudno on a cold Friday night with a numerical disadvantage from the off as only 10 players travelled .

It was going to be a tough test for the girls against the league leaders who held a 100% record.

Airbus started well and you couldn’t tell who had a player advantage. It was end to end but the visitors held their shape well and started to create chances of their own and in the 33rd minute Lucy Vickers was put through with a scything pass and calmly slotted the chance away in the bottom corner.

This shocked the hosts and Airbus held that lead until half time .

Unfortunately we had to swap an injured player to play in goal, but she couldn’t kick the ball out at all .

At the start of the second half the hosts started brightly and within a minute of the restart they bungled over an equaliser.
But as the saying goes about being vulnerable after scoring is so true as Airbus cut the defensive line to pieces with a through ball which was pounced on and dispatched into the top corner by Lucy Vickers .

It was end to end after that with the hosts pushing for an equaliser, leaving holes at the back, which were exploited but unluckily not finished off, which left the hosts with hope of snatching something from the game.

It was deep Into injury time and the hosts forced a corner, which led to a scramble on the incoming ball and it fell to a striker who equalised with the last kick of the game.

It must have been like a win for them as they celebrated. I know our girls were disappointed not to get the victory, but what a monumental performance by the Airbus girls.

Player of the week Lucy Vickers
A stellar performance by Lucy Vickers tonight ,played a true no.9 role ,took her chances well ,and the ball stuck to her feet when she came deep.
