Airbus Academy Report – 28th February – 1st March 2025

Michelle Griffiths5 Mar - 21:56

Games included Bala Town, Newtown, Chester FC and Aberystwyth Town

Airbus U8s – Higher Bebington (H)
Airbus U8s put in a fantastic performance against a strong Higher Bebington side, battling to an exciting 4-4 draw. Both teams showed great attacking and defensive play throughout the match.

The game started with Higher Bebington on the front foot, taking advantage of a slow start from Airbus to score a few early goals. However, the team showed great resilience and fought their way back into the game.

Lucas was outstanding in goal, making several incredible saves to keep Airbus in the match. In defence, Ethan and Elliot worked tirelessly, putting in crucial tackles and clearances to stop the opposition’s attacks.

Going forward, Airbus grew into the game, creating plenty of chances and finding the net four times with some excellent attacking play. In the final moments, Otis nearly secured a dramatic winner with a brilliant individual run, but his shot skimmed just wide of the goal.
A great team effort and a well-deserved result for Airbus

Player of the week: Lucas Jones

Airbus U10s – Camel Lairds & Greenleas (H)
Our u10 wingmakers welcomed Greenleas and Camel Lairds on a warm Saturday morning.

The u10s were extremely dominant throughout the first game against Greenleas.

They played at a great intensity on all areas of the pitch and were able to create lots of chances through some sharp patterns of Play.

In the second game against Camel Lairds our U10 Wingmakers continued to play with this intensity and drive making them extremely difficult to play against.
Although our u10s played some great football and reacted very well to losing the ball, a few losses of concentration resulted in some goals conceded, however Airbus were able to fight back and create a very competitive game.

MOTM went to Iestyn as he was able to dominate the middle third throughout both games due to his positivity and quality on the ball and intensity to win it back high up the pitch.

This Saturday saw Airbus take on two different teams who were unfamiliar.

Camel Lairds and Greenleas visited the Airfield for two well contested games.

Camel lairds were up first who proved to be relentless at the back. The boys challenge was to switch the play to use the wide areas in attack. We did this well and created many chances. Bobby dazzler with some fantastic balls through the defensive line we’re causing the opposition big problems, we just couldn’t find that final finish. The second half was much of the same and this time we got our rewards with a great team goal!

The second game was a different type of game with the opposition having some really tall and physical players. We started really well scoring early on in the first half, Charlie Robinson doing what all good strikers do, in the right place at the right time to tap in.

As the game went on, we struggled to find any flow to our game, whilst still creating chances, we struggled in the final third. Couldn’t fault the boys commitment throughout the game though!

MoM went to Charlie Robinson for his 3 goals on the game, along with some really nice touches in attacking phases. Well done boys, on to the next!

Airbus U11s – Chester FC (H)
U11’s Played Friday night under the lights at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium

The young Wingmakers played 80 minutes of football against a very well organised Chester team

The first quarter started reasonably balanced with chances at both ends. The young Wingmakers took a little time to get in to the game but eventually played their way in to the fixture, defending strongly and attacking with purpose. First quarter 1-0 Chester

Second quarter was a very good performance for both young teams, both displaying some excellent skill and attitudes. Very end to end action showing some great desire to move forward and display their knowledge and understanding in front of goal. Second quarter 0-0

Third quarter the quality continued to show in abundance. Chester probably having more of the ball at attacking strongly but the young Wingmakers defending was fantastic with each player being brave and doing their bit to slow down the opponents attack. With many attack from both teams this quarter ended 3-2 Chester but was a fantastic display of attacking and defending

Forth quarter was a little slower as the game had taken its toll on the young players as they had left everything on the pitch working hard for each other. Still the character and resilience shone through on the cold frosty night and they still managed to play with the same intensity and quality, opting to find more passes getting themselves in some great positions and looking safe in possession. Forth quarter 1-0 Chester

Overall very pleasing performance from the young Wingmakers, playing some very good football and looking well organised at key moments

Players of the week goes to Will Houghton and Shay Davies who both put on a fantastic performance defensively, made some great decision and shown real bravery in key moments.

All the players were fantastic and can all be pleased with their individual and collective effort. Well done team

Airbus U12s – Princes Villa (A)
Airbus 12s had a friendly game against Princes Villa away 11v11. Due to it behind HT in Wales a lot of player were away. We managed to find 11 players but without a sub

We quickly went down to 10 player within 5 mins due to an injury. We managed to play the first half brilliantly, keeping the ball and making some excellent goal scoring chances. We manage to take the lead thanks for Sam’s early goal. Villa did manage to pull a goal back to make it 1-1.
We again scored another really well worked goal. Using the whole pitch to make it 2-1 due to another Sam finish. Yet again Villa came back to equalise to make it 2-2 at HT

2nd half we dominated the ball. Moving it really and well and winning a lot of 1v1 battles throughout the pitch. Again we managed to take the lead through Freddie R who scored an excellent goal into the top right corner. All thanks for Lucas W brilliant run and pass. But Villa again managed to find a way to equalise by the pressing the GK. The boys were running on empty due to playing mid-week fixtures as well. But Harri M incredible run with the ball and scoring a fantastic goal to make it 4-3. But just as the whistle was about to go Villa managed to score the equalising goal to make the match level 4-4.

MOTM- Harri Morris

Airbus U15s – Newtown (A)
The U15 travelled down to Latham Park on cold and frosty morning. The lads started brightly in attack, but the game resembled a basketball encounter as we didn’t have the control that we desired.

Evan Roberts struck the bar with a free kick, Billy Allen narrowly missed the target when lobbing the keeper and Nataniel Rakowiecki struck a firm shot which stung the keepers’ hands.

However, we conceded a disappointing goal where we failed to cover our defensive position and Bailey Davies had a couple of important moments to keep the score at 0-1.

We asked for more intensity and increased ball speed in the 2nd half. The lads needed to believe that they could get back into the game & be positive in the final phase.

The lads were excellent throughout the 2nd half. We hit the bar again and peppered the Newtown goal with shots from all angles.

Eventually, we scored a deserved equaliser when nice work in midfield from Fin Geary found Caiden Baker-Williams who smashed the ball in off the bar 1-1. An excellent first touch & finish from Caid. We then scored a goal from a header that appeared to cross the line but unfortunately the ref did not agree.

Fin Hayes then went through and the keeper made a fine save. It was all action. We unfortunately then switched off at the back again and Newtown scored with their only chance of the 2nd half as the ball looped in.

We then hit the post from an Alex Mossman header and thought that despite our excellent efforts, we would leave empty handed.

However, the lads kept pushing, with Rhys Ineson especially delivering a number of excellent crosses/set pieces into the box...surely one would fall our way.

Finally, on 78 mins Evan Roberts recovered a deep cross and quickly returned the ball nicely on to the penalty spot for Fin Geary to volley home. An excellent finish. Totally deserved.

The game ended 2-2...not quite sure how but great resilience and discipline shown by the young wingmakers.

Player of the week: Fin Geary – A goal and an assist from Fin today, which complimented a steady performance in midfield. Well done Fin

Airbus U16s – Bala Town (A)
The U16 travelled away to Maes Tegid to play Bala on a day where the weather conditions couldn’t have been better for a game of Academy football.

Airbus started strongly, had a couple of early chances, but unfortunately couldn’t convert. Indeed we had a couple of moments towards the end of the half through Jake Pendlebury & Jack Davies which brought good saves from the opposition keeper. The play in general was ok, however there was little cutting edge as we tried to force the final pass too early at times which was the main topic of our discussion at half time. We were solid at the back and Jacob Clement only had one near post save to make of any note in the 1st half. 0-0

In the 2nd half, we asked for more intensity, increased tempo when transitioning into possession and to have more belief in the final third. We had a couple of early chances through Jake Pendlebury & Harri Phythian. Joseph Pridding was a threat out wide & provided a couple of chances where we could have scored. We were making the pitch big and our opponents struggled to match us.

Thus, a calculated switch of play through Goalkeeper Louis Brimfield, found Max Mason on the half way line. He in turn played the ball to Jake Pendlebury, who carried the ball forward and played an inch perfect pass to match the excellent run from deep by Dylan Cusato – he took the chance early into the bottom left had corner. An excellent individual goal from Dylan & fine team goal from back to front.

We managed the game well with Charlie Jones, Harvey O’Sullivan & MOM Sam Ibbitson keeping us solid in defensive areas.

A deserved victory for the lads. A controlled and impressive 2nd half performance which at one point had 5 x U15 players on the pitch.

Player of the week: Sam Ibbitson – Sam was excellent throughout the match. Defensively solid, showed great awareness throughout both in and out of possession & provided a solid base for us at the back. Well done Sam

Airbus U19s – Aberystwyth Town FC (H)
Airbus hosted Aberystwyth at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium Sunday afternoon

Airbus started the better of the two sides dominating the majority of possession, although it was a little disorganised, we played our way in to the game which was to be rewarded on 13’ as Charlie Davies scored his first goal for the club assisted by Josh Edwards.

Dominating the majority of the ball creating chances we just couldn’t find the net. The opposition found themselves through on goal 1v1 with our keeper Harry Davies who was up to the challenge. Just before half time Ieuan Jones Wellstead delivered a cross which Dan Semple smashed in to the back of the net on 44’. HT 2-0 Airbus

Second half started and Airbus turned up the heat. Ieuan Jones Wellstead added to the score on 48’ assisted by Hugh Holland. Ten minutes later Dan Semple added another assisted by a fantastic bit of work by Josh Edwards.

Dominating the game Airbus were in total control. On 79’ Harvey Greig was brought down for a Pen which Dan Semple calmly slotted home to complete his hat trick. Then Substitute Franek Sadczuk added the final goal on 82’ assisted by Josh Edwards. Final score 6-0 Airbus

Player of week goes to Cam Meredith again. Cam is going from strength to strength and took the captains arm and today. He shown some real leadership qualities and put on a very mature performance. Well done Camo
