Michelle Griffiths

Friday evening we take a trip up the North Wales coast as we take on Colwyn Bay

Match day 3, there was mixed fortunes, as Airbus picked up three points with a 2-0 victory against Ammanford AFC at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium, courtesy of goals from Jordan Evans and George Peers. Colwyn Bay bay took the short trip to Caernarfon Town, where they fell to a 3-0 loss at The Oval.

Airbus and Colwyn Bay have met 7 times, the first meeting coming in the Welsh Cup in the 2019/20 season, which after a goalless 90 minutes a goal from Tom McCready in extra time saw the Seagulls progress.

Our next two meetings come in the 2021/22 Cymru North season and Airbus come out on top on both occasions. The home fixture at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium resulted in a 4-1 win, with current Colwyn bay player Adam Davies scoring al four goals. The fixture at Colwyn Bay had a similar outcome, with Airbus recording a 3-0 victory with 2 goals coming from Jake Eyre and 1 from Beau Cornish.

It wasn't until the 2023/24 season that both teams met again and this was in R2 of the Nathaniel MG Cup and it was Colwyn Bay who progressed to the next round with a 5-0 win.

In Colwyn Bay's title winning 2024/25 season as they went on to be crowned Cymru North Champions, the seagulls hosted Airbus for the first meeting of the campaign and it turned into an eventful evening. Airbus took an early lead thorough Sam Baker, but the Seagulls soon turned the scoreline into a 3-1 lead. With 40 minutes of the game remaining, Airbus got themselves back into the game as goals from Danny Warren and Jordan Evans got the scoreline back to 3-3, but the game wasn't done there as Colwyn Bay scores another three goals to finish 6-3.
The home fixture at Airbus wasn't as eventful as the points were share, as George Peers' goal earned Airbus a draw.

Our final meeting was in our journey to lifting the WBS League Cup in 2024/25. Airbus took the lead within 15 minutes through a goal from Danny Warren, but Colwyn Bay drew level on 29 minutes. An early goal in the second half, again from Warren put Airbus back in front and they increased their lead with 15 minutes of the 90 remaining through a James Davies goal. The Bay made it a nervous end to the game for Airbus, as Craig Lindfield reduced the deficit, but Airbus were able to see the game out.
