Airbus sign off the league season with a good result against the league winners

Saturday saw the last game of the JD Cymru North and a day to sign off the season on a high as we celebrated our promotion to the JD Cymru Premier.

With the visit of Llandudno, Mark Allen made a couple of changes to the starting line-up that started against Ruthin Town on Tuesday evening. Nath Williams, Tyler McManus, Jordan Evans, George Peers came in for Blaine Hudson, Ieuan Jones-Wellstead, Dan Collins and James Davies.

There was a place on the bench after a tough time out with injury for Ryan Edwards, a long servant of the club making 412 appearances for the club.

Llandudno got us underway on a cold but sunny lunch time at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium. As the hosts set up to play long from the kick off, Airbus dealt well with the situation and were able to work the ball up the right-hand side into George Peers who found himself in behind the defence and his shot was saved by Shaun Pearson.

With both teams cancelling each other in possession there was a few half chances for both sides.

17 minutes there was a break in play as Jordan Evans received some lengthy treatment, but after being down for a few minutes, he managed to come back on and play, but a few minutes later it was the end of the game for Evans as he was replaced by Dan Collins as the Captain for the day was unable to carry on.

Both Stepehens’ were a handful up top for Llandudno, and it was Callum who had a half chance on 21 minutes, his shot from the left-hand side of the box was just wide of the far corner as it sailed past for a goal kick.

Two minutes later, Kaiden Cooke was allowed space on the right to cut inside and carry the ball across the pitch towards goal and get an effort on target which was comfortable for Pearson.

Keighan Jones nearly gifted a goal to the visitors just before the half hour mark. His tame pass out didn’t get any direction, and Callum Stephens was there to collect the ball, but his heavy first touch allowed Jones to recover and smuggle the ball at the feet of the Llandudno striker.

Cooke was causing problems down the right as he grew into the game along with Airbus. His positive play allowed him to beat two players before delivering a cross into the Llandudno box, but it was too close to Pearson at the near post.

As we headed into injury time for the first half, Airbus took the lead. A ball into the box from Tyler McManus was missed by Pearson and Mason Blackwell-Jones was unmarked to head the ball into the back of the net.

Airbus went into the half time break with a 1-0 lead, and confidence was within the home team as they grew into the game.

Airbus got us back underway for the second half, looking to preserve their lead and add to the goal tally.

It was Llandudno who had the first chance of the second half as a ball was dinked to the back post, which Ross Weaver got his head to, but he was unable to direct his header on target.

The visitors were awarded a free kick about 25 yards out, which Kieran Smith stood over to take. His effort was straight at the wall and the follow up shot was deflected and Keighan Jones did well to collect.

With just over 15 minutes to play of the 90, Airbus made a substitution as Danny Warren replaced Mason Blackwell-Jones.
Warren was to score with his first touch of the game. Tyler McManus delivered a brilliant ball into the box and Danny Warren headed a bullet of a header into the back of net to double Airbus’ lead.

Warren made it 3 to Airbus and a brace for himself three minutes later.

Cooke picked the ball up from a Llandudno corner and travelled up the pitch and as Pearson come to close down, he passed a perfect ball into Warren’s path who passed into an empty net.

Marc Williams was introduced to the game by the visitors, and he managed to get a header towards goal with his first chance after coming on, but it was over the bar.

82 minutes, Mark Cadwallder had a wild shot from the edge of the six-yard box, and he was it go way over the bar.

With five minutes of the 90 remaining, Ryan Edwards was introduced to the game replacing Kaiden Cooke.

87’, there was good skill from Adam Stephens as he was able to bring the ball out of the air and take the shot on the turn with power as Jones did well to collect the ball.

As we approached the 90-minute mark, Harvey Bennet brought a great save from Keighan Jones as he pushed the ball away for a corner with a strong hand.

From the resulting corner, Llandudno had a consolation goal as a corner by Stephens was headed in by Marc Williams.

Airbus kept the score at 3-1 and after seeing themselves through 4 minutes of injury time and take three points on the last day of the season and celebrate their incoming promotion to the JD Cymru Premier
