The WingMakers welcomed Mold Alexandra to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium with game under the lights on a Friday night, with a point needed to secure promotion.

After 3 games in 6 days, there was a few changes to the starting line-up to which started against Brickfield Rangers on Tuesday evening. Keighan Jones, Blaine Hudson, Jake Roberts and George Peers returning from suspension replacing Sam Fenney, Kieran Evans, Jake Roberts and James Davies.

The visitors got us underway for the evening in their all-yellow kit on a very cold March night.

Airbus had started the game brightly, like they did against Brickfield and on 3 minutes they had the opening goal. A cross into the box by George Peers was side footed into the bottom corner by Danny Warren.

9’ minutes, Peers delivered a ball into the box, which was over hit, Warren back heeled as he collected the cross into the path of Joe Palmer whose shot was blocked.

Peers was involved once again shortly after as he found himself through on goal from a lovely through ball from Jordan Evans. Peers rounded the Mold ‘keeper Henry Green, and the visiting goalkeeper did well to get a touch and play it back of Peers’ for a goal kick.

With quarter of an hour gone, Mold had their first chance of the game. Owen Cordiner took a shot from the edge of the box, which was deflected enroute to goal, as Keighan Jones did well to push the ball wide for a corner.

Both teams had now settled into the game, as they both had spells of possession and it was the visitors that brought a save from Airbus ‘keeper Jones. A corner was delivered in by Mold and was headed towards goal by Max McGoona, and it was saved at point blank range by Jones to deny the youngster.

33’ Airbus were awarded a free kick. Jordan Evans’ delivery was punched clear by Green and fell to Jake Roberts. Roberts helped the ball on to Joe Palmer who hit a thunderous shot which was straight into the mid rift of the Mold ‘keeper.

As we approached the last 5 minutes of the first half, George Peers delivered a dangerous ball into the box, which Warren dived at, but he was unable to get the connection to head the ball into the back of the net.

41 minutes, Airbus had their second goal and Danny Warren had a brace. A lovely, reversed pass by Jake Roberts was perfect for Warren and he chipped Green to secure his second goal.

Within quick succession, Airbus were 3-0 to the good. Jordan Evans played the ball through the Mold defenders’ legs, and his shot was blocked by Roberts and as it ricocheted up in the air Roberts headed the ball into the back of the net on his second attempt.

Roberts looked like he had his second goal a minute before half time. A ball from the right by Peers was delivered to the back post and it was met by Roberts, but his header was over the bar.

With no injury time added, the referee blew time on a very good half for the WingMakers.

The hosts got us back underway for the second half, and on 48’ Danny Warren completed his hattrick. A free kick from Jordan Evans was whipped in and Warren kept himself on side to put the ball into the back of the net at the near post.

53’ Jordan Evans received the ball on the left of the box and his volley from an acute angle was just shy of the top corner.

Airbus were enjoying their time on the pitch, a great ball over the top by Dan Collins found Warren and his effort come crashing off the post, but the official’s flag was up as the Airbus striker was offside.

With Airbus 4 goals to the good, Airbus made a triple substitution with James Davies, James Allen and Kieran Evans replacing Nath Williams, Danny Warren and Joe Palmer.

On the hour, Airbus had 5 and it was George Peers that got in on the act. Jordan Evans found Peers with a lovely pass, and he slotted his shot into the bottom corner.

67’ Jake Roberts made it 6 and added another goal to his name. Roberts picked the ball up on the edge of the box and unleashed an unbelievable shot that settled in the top corner perfectly.

James Allen showed his awareness on 74, as the ball fell to him around 40 yards out and he saw Green off his line and attempted a shot, but his effort didn’t quite get the height to beat Green as he was able to collect.

It was 7 goals for the WingMakers as we entered the last 10 minutes of the 90. A ball into the channel for Jordan Evans from Kieran Evans was played in by the No.9 and was blocked for a corner. 88’ A cross by Dan Collins found Roberts with a cross-field pass which Roberts headed on towards goal and Green tipped the ball on to the post to deny Roberts’ his third of the evening.

Not long after, George Peers also had two goals for himself. A peach of a ball by Kieran Evans was headed brilliantly into the far corner by the Airbus No.11 to put him on 22 league goals for the Season.
