Three points on the road for The WingMakers in their quest for promotion

After a very good win against Buckley Town last weekend at home, Airbus travelled to the Caersws Recreation Ground to take on Caersws on a dull and cold afternoon.

With three games in a week, Mark Allen made a couple of changes to the starting line-up with Sam Fenney, Mason Blackwell-Jones and Kieran Evans replacing Keighan Jones, Danny Warren and Kaiden Cooke.

The hosts got us underway for the afternoon on a soft pitch looking to derail Airbus’ winning streak in the JD Cymru North.

From kick off, Caersws nearly took a very early lead, a ball played up from the back was met by the Caersws’ forward and his shot clipped the post and out for a goal kick.

The hosts had started the game very strongly and 8 minutes they forced a clearance from a corner from Sam Fenney as he was commanding in the Airbus box and shortly after a shot from Sam Phillips was just wide.

It was all Caersws at this point and Rhys Hesden tried his luck from the edge of the box, but his effort was wide.

14 minutes in, Airbus has a good passage of play, which started with Blaine Hudson as he released Nath Williams, who found Joe Palmer on the half turn as he played the ball into Tyler McManus. McManus played the ball over the oncoming defender into Jordan Evans, who travelled towards the box, but his run was halted in the box.

A ball over the top a minute later by Caersws nearly caught Airbus out as Phillips picked the ball up and ran at the Airbus goal, but Hudson was there to block superbly to release the pressure.

On 16 minutes, Airbus took the lead against the run of play. McManus did brilliantly to keep the ball in and played a first-time ball into Jake Roberts and with no hesitation Roberts finished with his first touch with a perfectly weighted lob over Max Williams in the Caersws goal

Sam Rickett’s determination won the ball in the centre circle and found George Peers with a good pass. Peers took one touch and played the ball into Roberts’ path with his second touch to see the strikers shot saved by Williams.

Some great build-up play again by Airbus, this time by Mason Blackwell-Jones and Tyler McManus released our No.2 for a cross but it was blocked by Ashley Harries.

Roberts was causing problems for the back line of the hosts and his shot from the right of the box on 29’ was just wide.

A ball over the top found Tommy Rowlands as we approached the half hour mark and he looked to be scoring but Fenney stood strong as he saved brilliantly to deny the Caersws No.9.

34’ Caersws had an equaliser, a ball was played into the box from the left and the ball fell to Thomas Edwards and it rolled into the back of the net.

The end of the half finished as it started with a lot going on. Jordan Evans found Mason Blackwell-Jones, and he played the ball into McManus path as his touch set himself for a shot and his effort was off target.

44’ Dillion Brown found himself through on goal but a great block by Sam Rickett thawed the Caersws No.10 in his tracks.

Airbus had the last action of the half as a Jordan Evans free kick from the left was parried by Max Williams on to the crossbar, as it come bouncing off the crossbar the ball fell to Hudson on the edge of the area was blocked.

The referee blew time on a first half as both teams could take a breather.

Jake Roberts got us back underway for the second half with Airbus looking to take the lead again.

52’ Airbus were caught on the break as Nath Williams defended well against Hesden and won a foul to release the pressure.

Blackwell-Jones played the ball forward as it fell to Peers and he did very well to hold the ball up and try and play in Jordan Evans, but his pass didn’t have enough weight on it, to reach the Airbus No.9.

Airbus had now started to get a foothold in the game a ball into the box by McManus, which Roberts beat his defender at the near post with a header, his header looped up and wide.

This time it was Peers that found himself in behind the Caersws defence and his effort was saved by Max Williams.

Just after the hour, a delivery from a corner by Jordan Evans was flicked on by Hudson, which Williams picked up and set Roberts. The striker set himself to curl the ball in the top right corner, but it was wide.

64’ A shot from Peers was saved and pushed for a corner by Max Williams. From the resulting corner, it was 2-1 to Airbus. The corner was delivered in by Jordan Evans and Peers managed to wriggle free from his marker to get to the near post and direct the ball into the back of net for his 20th league goal of the season.

Shortly after, a ball into Roberts’ path and his cross took a little deflection which made it more comfortable for Williams to collect.

68 minutes and Airbus made a double substitution with Danny Warren and James Davies replacing goal scorer Jake Roberts and Kieran Evans.

As we entered the remaining 20 minutes, Caersws were awarded a free kick. Jake Humphreys tried his luck from a set piece and Sam Fenney did well to get his hands to it as Sam Rickett cleared the loose ball.

Airbus were looking for that third, Blackwell-Jones won a 50/50 and travelled towards goal, but Harry Cottam made a brilliant tackle to see the ball go for a corner.

76’ A ball was played into Danny Warren on the left who cut inside on to his right foot and tried to catch Max Williams out at his near post, the ‘keeper saved well with a strong right foot to deny the Airbus No.8.

With 8 minutes remaining, Josh Stevenson replaced Jordan Evans.

With four minutes of injury time added, we entered a frantic end to the game. A late tackle from Max McLaughlin on Mason Blackwell-Jones was shown a straight red by the referee.

The last substitution of the game saw Dan Collins replaced Mason Blackwell-Jones.

Caersws piled some late pressure on Airbus as we entered the last minutes of injury time and Fenney made some great clearances to deny the hosts.

The game hadn’t ended there, this time it was Airbus reduced to ten men, as Sam Rickett was shown a red card for an incident off the ball.

The referee blew time on a very frantic end to the game, and Airbus dug in deep to come way with the three points in a very difficult game.
