Seagulls End Airbus' Unbeaten Start To The Season

Airbus returned to league action on Friday evening when they made the trip up the A55 to take on Colwyn Bay.

Airbus made two changes to their starting line-up that started against TNS, with Jordan Evans and Sam Baker replacing George Peers and Oli Lanceley.

The game started fast pace and within 11 minutes, Airbus had a 1-0 lead.

Jordan Evans did well to collect the ball in the centre circle and drove into the Colwyn Bay half. The number 9 fed a ball into the onrushing Baker, and he unleashed a brilliant shot across the Seagull’s keeper Williams and Baker’s shot found the bottom right hand corner.

Keighan Jones seemed to be the busier of the goalkeepers after Airbus’ first goal, this time saving down low to deny Colwyn Bay.

The ‘Bay were piling on the pressure and just after the half hour mark, they were rewarded with a free kick. Jay Owen stepped up to take the free kick and his thunderous effort was tipped over the crossbar by Jones.

The hosts got their rewards from their constant pressure, when an equaliser in the 37th minute levelled the score.

Jones was called into action once again when he managed to parry away a shot with a strong hand, but Lindfield was the quickest to react and made the score 1-1 with an easy tap in.

Colwyn Bay’s goal saw them find an extra gear and they were causing Airbus problems with Jones being called into action time after time. Tom Creamer was the latest player to bring and excellent save from Jones.

6 minutes before half time, Colwyn Bay took the lead when a Jay Owen Thunder strike from a clearance from a corner found the back of the net before anyone could react.

Airbus went into half time 2-1 down with plenty to discuss.

Colwyn Bay started the second half as they finished the first, when a corner caused chaos in the Airbus box and Lindfield was there once again to put the ball into the back of the net.

The goal seemed to wake Airbus and with 53 minutes on the clock, The WingMakers reduced their deficit. Danny Warren collected the ball and struck the ball with some pace and precision from the edge of the box to find the bottom right corner.

Two minutes later Airbus were rewarded a free kick on the left-hand side of the box, Warren drove in a fantastic delivery, but it was blocked and the clearance fell to safety.

Airbus were level just on the hour when the vice-captain Jordan Evans got in on the scoring act. Cooke’s original shot was blocked, and it fell into the path of Evans just outside the box for him to calmly slot the ball passed Williams to make the scores level.

Atkins remained busy in the Airbus box and this time an adventurous over-head kick nearly paid off for him, but it sailed just over the bar.

The game was becoming end to end, and Jordan Evans’ thought he had given Airbus the lead, when his great strike from 25 yards hit the underneath of the cross bar and bounced the wrong side of the goal line.

Colwyn Bay took the lead on 70 minutes, Lindfield completing his hattrick with another tap in and a case of being in the right place at the right time.

The hosts gained momentum after scoring their fourth goal and this time a long ball found Atkins 1v1 with Josh Stevenson and the young centre half made a fantastic block to deny the Colwyn Bay No.20, but Atkins got a second chance when Airbus failed to clear their lines, and his shot hit the crossbar and bounced off to safety.

Colwyn Bay secured their 3 points in the 87th minute when a clearance landed at Keighan Jones’ feet and his attempt to clear the ball hit Marsh-Hughes and headed towards an empty net.

There was 4 minutes injury time added on, and Colwyn Bay added a 6th when Marsh-Hughes got in behind the Airbus defence and pulled the ball back to substitute Dafydd who made no mistake with his finish.

A first defeat for the WingMakers in this Season’s campaign, and a first defeat since November 2023, we re-group and be ready to welcome Prestatyn on Friday evening at The Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
