Another game under the lights awaited Airbus on a mild spring Friday evening as they made the trip to Central Park to take on Denbigh Town.
After last week’s emphatic win against Mold Alex last weekend, Mark Allen made two changes to his starting line-up with Sam Fenney and Mason Blackwell-Jones replacing the absent Keighan Jones and Dan Collins.
Airbus got us underway for the evening as they looked to extend their unbeaten run.
Within the first minute, Airbus were awarded a free kick for a foul on Mason Blackwell-Jones. Jordan Evans stood over the free kick as he delivered a great delivery in the Denbigh box, Danny Warren connected as his effort was just wide.
5 minutes on the clock, the hosts had the lead. A ball in behind for Nathan Brown was timed well with his run as he tucked the ball into the far corner of the net.
Denbigh were on top and another chance followed soon after as Alfie Vaughan tried his luck from the long range, which was wide of the target. Another long-ranged effort followed as Gwion Dafydd’s effort was saved brilliantly by Sam Fenney.
Denbigh were dominating the play and having the better of the ball. 13’ Brown had another effort on goal and on this occasion his shot was deflected away from goal, as it was cleared by Jordan Evans, he found Jake Roberts, but he was flagged offside as he run through on goal.
25’ Nathan Williams did well to carry the ball out of defence through the middle, he found Danny Warren whose shot was saved well by Ollie Farebrother.
Fenney was at his best on 28’ as Brown had another long-ranged effort from the edge of the box and the Airbus goalkeeper tipped the ball over the bar.
8 minutes before half time, Denbigh increased their lead as they took a 2-0 lead. A corner was swung in by the home side, and it come of Joe Palmer last as it deflected it into his own net.
As half time approached, Airbus had two good chances. A shot from Jordan Evans brought an unconvincing save from Farebrother, but the Denbigh ‘keeper managed to stop it trickling into the back of the net. Another effort followed, this time it was an Evans’ free kick, which was met by Josh Stevenson, but the young defender was unable to get any direction on his header.
The referee blew time on a poor first half for the visitors.
Denbigh got us back underway for the second half as they looked to preserve their 2-0 lead. Five minutes into the second half, the hosts were reduced to ten men as Owen Davies received a second yellow card.
Airbus started the second half a lot brighter and on 52’, the visitors worked the ball well to place it into the path of Danny Warren for him to get a shot off, as Farebrother matched the shot with a good save.
Two minutes later, Airbus halved the deficit. A free kick from Jordan Evans was punched away by Farebrother and Nath Williams was the quickest to react as he headed the ball back across goal and his header nestled in the far corner of the net.
63’ Tyler McManus found Evans from a throw in and played George Peers in plenty of space who snatched at his shot and dragged it wide.
Against the run of play, Denbigh scored their third. Ben Lockley played the ball into Nathan Brown as he received the ball 35 yards out. He tried his luck and his brilliantly placed shot beat Fenney to make it 3-1 to Denbigh.
The goal galvanised the ten men of Denbigh and shortly after, Alfie Vaughan did well to get himself in from on McManus to send a shot goalwards, but his effort was wide of the target.
On 67, Mark Allen used his first substitute as he introduced pace in James Davies as he replaced Blaine Hudson, as Airbus were looking to get back into the game.
With 20 minutes remaining of the 90, a long ball over the top found Brown in space as he tried a similar shot to the third goal as he tried to lob Fenney, but this time Fenney made a great save to push the ball for a corner.
79’ Williams delivered a ball into the box, and it was headed on by James Davies and his header looped over the crossbar.
Airbus made it a frantic ten minutes as George Peers had the ball in the back of the net. Danny Warren did well to hold the ball up and lay the ball off to Peers as he passed the ball into the back of the Denbigh net.
The goal saw a change in personnel and a chance to try and get another goal as Kieran Evans replaced Josh Stevenson and his delivery was causing Denbigh problems. The Airbus No.3 delivered a cross which was headed out for a corner as Peers was arriving at the back post.
With the game entering injury time, Airbus were doing what they could to find an equaliser. First of all, there was a mele in the Denbigh penalty area and between Farebrother and some blocks from the hosts the ball was cleared to safety.
90+4’ Kieran Evans delivered another excellent ball into the box and this time it was met by Jake Roberts, but he was unable to keep his header down.
The referee blew time on the game, as Airbus lost 3-2 for their first loss in the league since November.
