WingMakers progress into the semi-finals of the Welsh Blood Service League Cup

Airbus travelled to Llay on a cold but sunny afternoon for the second round of the Welsh Blood Service League Cup.

The WingMakers made a few changes with Kieran Evans, Nathan Williams, Ryan Edwards, Oli Lanceley and Sam Baker replacing Josh Stevenson, George Peers, Kaiden Cooke, James Davies and Joe Palmer.

Llay got the first half underway kicking from right to left.

Tyler McManus delivered a cross into the box and Lanceley’s header was saved by Green and Llay cleared their lines

Airbus gained control over the game by keeping the ball as Llay sat off and it there was 5 minutes on the clock when Oli Lanceley gave Airbus the lead. Danny Warren found himself in space on the edge of the area and his shot was blocked by the Llay defence but ricocheted into Lanceley’s path. His finish was low across ‘keeper Green settling in the bottom left corner.

Llay had a chance shortly after, but Callo’s effort was over the crossbar.

Airbus were seeing more of the possession but were struggling to find that finishing touch in the final third.

On 35 minutes, a long ball on the left was met by Kamilo and he collected the ball and ran at Kieran Evans, where a little touch inside Kamilo sent an effort towards goal which come crashing off the post and Callo was quick to react and turn the ball home to give the hosts an equaliser.

Tyler McManus had an effort just before half time, but he dragged his shot wide of the far post

Airbus got us underway in the second half looking to regain their lead.

10 minutes into the second half, Airbus were rewarded a free kick and Jordan Evans was standing over the ball, but his effort was blocked, the ball fell to Kieran Evans who hit the ball sweetly but it was straight at Green in the Llay goal.

Green was called into action 4 minutes later, when a brilliant header from Lanceley looked like it was heading for the top corner but a great hand from Green denied the Airbus No.19.

On the hour, Airbus made their first substitution with Kaiden Cooke replacing Sam Baker.

One minute later, Airbus did have their lead back. A delightful ball from Jordan Evans was perfect as it was met by a towering header by Nath Williams, which passed Green before he could react.

Airbus had a 2-goal cushion with 20 minutes to go, when a ball was played into Warren’s path who beat the Llay full-back and he pulled back the ball for an easy finish for Lanceley, for his second of the game.

6 minutes later, Warren had his name on the scoresheet and gave the Wingmakers a 4-1 lead going into the last 15 minutes of the game. Dan Collins tried his luck from distance, but Green made another great save to deny the youngster, which caused a scramble in the box and Warren was there to pounce and put the ball into the back of the net.

George Peers and James Davies were introduced to the game with 10 minutes to go for Danny Warren and Jordan Evans.

Peers tried an audacious overhead kick from 12-yards out, but the referee blew for a foul on the Llay defender.

With two minutes remaining of the 90, James Davies put the cherry on top of the cake when his curling effort from just outside the box nestled in the top corner.

Into the next round for the WingMakers as we await our next opponents.
