Saturday evening sees Airbus with their final game of the Season as they take on Holywell Town FC in the final of NEWFA Men’s Senior Challenge Cup Final in a carbon copy of last season’s tie.
Airbus entered the competition in round 5, as they took on Gresford Athletic FC at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium. A moment of brilliance separated the two sides on a very windy evening, as a Jordan Evans corner was guided straight into the back of the net to see Airbus progress.
Airbus made the trip to Ruthin Town in the quarter finals and went on a scoring spree. Kaiden Cooke opened the scoring on 18 minutes, goals then followed from Blaine Hudson, James Davies, Mason Blackwell-Jones, James Allen and Danny Warren.
The semi-finals saw Airbus with another home tie as they welcome fourth tier side Penyfford Lions. Airbus found themselves 2-0 up within 25 minutes with an opening goal from Joe Palmer, closely followed by a goal from Dan Collins. The visitors pulled a goal back just past the half hour mark from Alister Randles. The WingMakers put themselves back in control on 62 minutes with a goal from Jake Roberts from a James Davies assist.
Holywell’s fifth round game saw them take on Hawarden Rangers and braces from Fabrizio Murtas and Oliver Buckley saw them run out 4-0 winners.
In the quarter finals The Wellmen welcomed Cefn Albion to the Achieve More Stadium. Murtas was on the score sheet once again, along with Danny Sullivan as they went into the half time break 2-0 up. Murtas added another goal early on in the second half and the game finished 4-0 to Holywell as Alfie Edwards scored in injury time.
Holywell also welcomed a fourth-tier side in the semi finals as FC Queens Park were the visitors. The visitors opened the scoring on the night on 26 minutes as Tom Freeman put them in front. Queens Park went into the half time break 1-0 up, but the hosts soon got themselves level earlier on in the second half through Craig Lindfield.
