Post Match Interview: Manager Mark Allen

Michelle Griffiths15 Feb - 10:50

Thoughts on a hard fought three points on the road

First half, both teams had chances and we couldn't find that end product? What did you say to the lads at half time?

M.A. "I felt we controlled the first half with our play and caused them problems with our press. We managed to catch them a few times, George hit the post and it rolled across the goal line, Kaiden put in some dangerous crosses and Danny’s goal ruled out for offside when it wasn’t. So I was pleased.

However they did have a clear chance from a lack of concentration from us.

At halftime the message was to ask the lads who was going to take responsibility to go and win the game for us as it was there and we just had to be ruthless. To be fair they all stepped up for the second half and in particular for the first 25 minutes we were excellent"

An early goal from Mason in the second half and an unbelievable free kick from Jordan gave us a 2-0 lead?

M.A. "Two very different goals where we have won the ball in midfield for Mason and played through them for him to convert. Really pleased with that one and Jordan’s was a wonderful free kick. Like last week I was right behind it and could see the moment it left his foot"

They made it a nervy last 15 minutes when they scored?

M.A. "Rhyl are not where they are in the league or in the Welsh cup semi final for no reason and we knew that going into the game today. They have match winning players and are organised.

Yes, after they scored there was some pressure which we’d expect and it was a bit of a basketball match, but a ‘proper’ game of football at that point. However it was good to get the third to secure the points"

We have spoken about Jordan's influence on the game in previous weeks and he secured the three points today?

M.A. "I think the whole squad has been influential together and I go back to my point about everyone taking responsibility and control of situations.

Jordan was excellent second half and took his two goals very well today driving us on. But I can say that about everyone today. The back four were strong, Kaiden was a torment to them and Joe Palmer picked up so many second balls. The team were very together today to achieve what we wanted"

We turn our attention to Ruthin away on Friday evening, who have had a good win against Brickfield this weekend?

M.A. "Yes, I went to watch them the other night and they are a resilient team. They have added players with experience in this league over the window so it will be another challenging game for us"
