After a good test against Vauxhall on Tuesday, we travelled to Denbigh Town as we continued are pre-season preparations.
Airbus were on the front foot from the first whistle as they won the ball high up the pitch, as Nath Williams’ cross brought the Denbigh ‘keeper into a save and then as they worked the ball out for a shot from range from Jordan Evans which was pushed away by Farebrother.
The visitors were starting to flood the Denbigh box with crosses; this time it was a cross from Tyler McManus which was cleared by the Denbigh defence. Another cross from the right was overhit, but Oli Lanceley did well to keep the ball in play and work the ball back to edge of the area for Jordan Evans to have another shot which was this time blocked.
An effective clearance header found the Denbigh forward Vaughan-Evans, who looked to have a sight at goal, but Williams did well to close the angle and force Vaughan-Evans to push his effort wide.
Vaughan-Evans was involved again two minutes later, as he capitalised on a mistake from Trialist A and his effort from a tight angle was palmed over by Keighan Jones.
25 minutes played and Nath Brown delivered an inviting ball into the Airbus penalty area as Lockley headed the ball back across goal which Vaughan-Evans headed towards goal which kissed the cross bar and over.
As we approached half time, Airbus took the lead. Trialist A won the ball halfway in the Denbigh half and the ball made its way into the path of Jordan Evans, as he found Jake Roberts in space on the penalty spot and his first touch set him to finish in the bottom left- hand corner.
Airbus entered the half time break a goal to the good.
At the beginning of the second half, Kaiden Cooke was introduced to the action, and it wasn’t long before he was causing problems. The ball broke to Cooke just in the Airbus half and he made an unbelievable run with the ball, and his shot come crashing off the cross bar, where the rebound falls to George Peers on the edge of the area and his shot hit his own player, Sam Rickett. Rickett managed to get hold of the ball and his effort was intercepted by Lockley to deny the Airbus No.6 from increasing Airbus’ lead.
Moments later it was Denbigh to hit Airbus on the break as Smith looked to be clean through, but a brilliant run from Tyler McManus covered the ground to get a fantastic block to deny Smith a chance on goal.
Just after the hour, Airbus had a second goal through Jordan Evans. There was some great hold up play by Trialist B, who played Peers in down the right and his cross found Jordan Evans in space to slam the ball into the back of the net.
Ex-Airbus man Hugh Holland had a chance not long after as some good play allowed Holland to beat his man, but his effort was wide.
With 20 minutes remaining of the 90, a corner was worked well to find Peers on the edge of the box and his shot was just wide of the post. 6 minutes later another corner delivered in by Jordan Evans was met at the near post by Tyler McManus, but it was straight into Farebrother’s hands.
The last action of the game was great play from back to front. Evan Smith found Peers with a lovely pass, who’s first touch took him away from his defender and played a ball into Louis Bebbington-Rogers down the left, who then fed the ball back into the oncoming Peers as his resulting shot was pushed over the bar.
The game finished 2-0 to Airbus and another 90 minutes in the bank. We would like to wish Denbigh all the best for the 2026/27 Season.
