The Wingmakers v Llanrhaeadr Y-M: Mark Allen Post Match

Joe Sargent12 Dec 2021 - 12:00

Airbus assistant manager Mark Allen gave his initial thoughts after the Wingmakers comfortably defeated Llanrhaeadr 5-1 at home.

Mark Allen felt Airbus produced a ‘professional’ display to secure a comprehensive victory against relegation fighting Llanrhaeadr at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.

A flurry of second half goals, as Adam Davies bagged a brace in addition to strikes from Jake Eyre and Oli Lanceley, ensured victory after Beau Cornish gave the Bus a half time lead.

Harrison Lewis salvaged some pride with a consolation in the latter stages for Llanrhaeadr, but despite the disappointment of conceding, Airbus extended a remarkable unbeaten run in the JD Cymru North to 14-matches.

Allen believed the showing of the Wingmakers was not at a top level in spite of the emphatic scoreline. The Englishman also praised the resilience shown in defence for large periods by the visitors who were the latest opponents in what has been a difficult spell of fixtures for Airbus.

“It was a professional performance,” Allen said.

“I thought we could have been better. To be fair to them they set up to frustrate us and they did.

“They wouldn’t let us play in-between the lines and caused us to be frustrated so credit to them, but in the end, we got over the line with three points.

“We got the first goal and in the second half after a little bit of a talking to we got better.

“We’re taking one game at a time. We’ve now had three tough games. Two away at Llangefni and Holyhead as well as today, but we knew we needed the nine points.”

A Davies double in the final 45 minutes continued the forward’s hot streak in front of goal which sees him lead the Cymru North goalscoring charts this season.

Allen was delighted that Davies ended a rare four-game spell without finding the target but was keen to stress how his game is about more than goals.

He also commended the performances of a number of youngsters who have progressed through the ranks at the club and featured to great effect in the match, both in the starting line-up and off the bench.

“It’s fantastic for Adam. I think he’s been a bit frustrated in the last couple of games with his goal return, but you’ve got to look at his contribution to our game plan with his assists and tempo of movement as well.

“We’ve had six academy graduates involved today and five were on at the end of the game - they’ve contributed as well. But it’s about taking every game as it comes.

“It was good to see Owen (Payne) get some minutes. He deserves it with the way he trains. Also, Sam McCormick coming on for the second half and contributing was good.

“To be fair to him, Aaran Edwards was unlucky to be left out because he’s been performing well when he’s been selected.

“There’s quality all over the squad and the older ones like Oli (Lanceley) and George (Peers) have always contributed throughout the season.”
