U16 and U18 in action against Tranmere Rovers

Dave Riley28 Oct 2015 - 08:11

National League side Tranmere Rovers visit Broughton during half term.

The U16 battled hard for a 0-0 draw with National League side Tranmere Rovers on monday night to start a busy half term period for the Academy.

Lewis George had the best of the chances for the young wingmakers but was unable to convert as the game petered out into a draw.

Next up were the U18 who took on an U16 side from Tranmere. The visitors started the brighter of the two sides and took the lead from a well worked set play routine, that was defended poorly by the wingmakers. It got worse for the U18 as a defensive lapse allowed Tranmere to extend their lead and come in 2-0 up at half time.

It was a much improved Airbus side that took to the field for the second period and the deficit was soon reduced by a smart Kel Davies finish.

Try as they might, the wingmakers couldn't force the equaliser despite some fantastic pressure. Despite this Tranmere still carved out chances of their own and were unlucky not to add a third when a curling effort hit both post and bar as the Airbus goal led a charmed life.

All in all a successful start to the half term period for the young wingmakers with more games and news from the training camps to come.
