Colwyn Bay Academy Fixtures (11th/12th December 2021)

On Saturday 11th December 2021, our Foundation Phase squads travelled to Eirias Park to play Colwyn Bay Academy.

U8's

Excellent performance by our U8's at a wet & windy Colwyn bay. The lads kept the ball low, trying to pass & move leading to some quality finishing.

Player of the week:

Kai Adams - Constant pressure play switching from left to right with 5 quality goals.

U9's

The U9’s were forced to split the squad this weekend and had two fixtures due to Colwyn Bay only having one team available. The U9’s played NFA U10’s on Saturday morning at Airbus. In a physical game against an age group above the lads battled well and worked hard for one another. Scoring some brilliant goals, a few on the counter attack which has been worked on in training which is always good to see. Well done lads. The other half of the U9’s travelled to Colwyn Bay, a frustrating afternoon of football. In stages playing some great passing combinations and scoring some great goals but it wasn’t consistent enough throughout the 60 minutes. Some errors against a strong Colwyn Bay side led to us conceding goals. Lots learned throughout the match to take on in future fixtures.

Players of the week:

Osian Thorman Jones - A brilliant performance from Osian, scoring lots of excellent goals and dominating every 1v1 situation that came his way using his wing maker moves.

Oscar Adams - Winning his 1v1 battles and working tirelessly for his team and also finished off with a great goal.

U10's

U10 visited Colwyn Bay on Saturday in difficult conditions again with the wind affecting the game. Some great phases of play in possession with some excellent team goals as well as individual goals. Towards the end the atmosphere got the better of the boys and started panicking in possesssion kicking the ball away with clearances that is not part of the wingmakers way. Close game with both teams scoring some great goals.

Player of the week:

Dafydd Edwards - Was an unsolvable problem driving at Colwyn Bay and combining well with his team. making the pitch large in possession and narrowing out of possession really well. Took his goals excellently in front of a very proud Nain!

On Sunday 12th December, our Youth Development Phase side played their final FAW Academy Cup matches before Christmas:

U12's

COLWYN BAY ACADEMY 1-2 AIRBUS ACADEMY

Airbus U12’s Christmas break will feel nicer after a excellent away win against hosts Colwyn bay. Really good game played between two very good teams. The post and cross bar was hit on several occasions by both teams prior to Aaron Charles opening the deadlock in the first half. 1-0. Aarons first goal of the season has been coming with his persistence in always thinking on the front foot recently so very much deserved. Nataniel scored once again with a beautiful left foot strike from just inside the box. After a goalmouth scramble Colwyn bay scored to make the last few minutes a Nail-biter bit Airbus managed to see the game out 2-1

Player of the week:

Shay Ellis - Was like a magnet to the ball eliminating danger from his holding midfield position. He’s really enjoying his new role and is excellent at it.

U13's

COLWYN BAY ACADEMY 2-2 AIRBUS ACADEMY

A game of 2 halves for the U13s away at Colwyn Bay. On a tight pitch, we only played 60 minutes instead of the usual 70 which hampered us during the fixture as we had 5 subs. We started slowly and although had 2/3 chances of our own, we went 0-2 down conceding 2 goals that we will learn from individually & collectively. Some stern words of encouragement & detail at half time spurred the lads into action and we scored 2 goals through Toby Lemon & Lewys Williams to equalise with 8 minutes to go. We then hit the bar, the post and had a goal ruled out for a debatable offside in the final stages and should have won the match convincingly in the end, but it wasn’t to be.

Player of the week:

Jack Hughes - Played well, delivered a number of excellent balls into the box and when asked to move into a different position, it didn't phase him. Much improved lately - well done Jack.

U14's

COLWYN BAY ACADEMY 2-2 AIRBUS ACADEMY

A strong second half showing earned a point for the 14s but it could have been so much more. In windy conditions at Eirias park, Airbus were two nil down by half time due to two avoidable goals from set pieces. With some strong words of encouragement at half time Airbus turned the game around. A 30 yard strike from Ben williams few into the top right corner to get Airbus back in the game. Then Tom Edwards rose highest from a corner to equalise with 8 minutes to go. Colwyn bay were holding on by the end with the width of the crossbar and a goal line block saving a point for Colwyn Bay. Another strong performance and comeback has shown how far the team has progressed in the first half of the season. The aim will be to carry this into the second half of the season after the Christmas break.

Player of the week:

Harris Albiston - Becoming a real leader of the back line organising his team mates around him and setting a good example. Was aggressive and on the front foot in 1v1 situations too.

U15's

AIRBUS ACADEMY 1-3 COLWYN BAY ACADEMY

First half errors meant the Airbus were ultimately left empty handed points wise today. The loss, while disappointing is far from fatal in terms of this years development. The whole group understands that we have areas that always need to develop. We're trying to get the right mix, so they're at a level where they can be consistent. I thought today the second half was tremendous, we pressed them high and caused a lot of problems. The players have had a great run of wins, and now we've had a couple of losses along the way. Now the most important thing is we keep our feet on the ground and are always searching for ways to improve. The players have been fabulous so far this season.

Player of the week:

Josh Stevenson - Flourished again looking extremely comfortable and composed in defence. Solid stepping in going forward and kept his shape well. Josh made some brilliant tackles and was outstanding throughout the 90 minutes.

U16's

AIRBUS ACADEMY 10-1 COLWYN BAY ACADEMY

A mid-day kick off at Airbus on Sunday for our U16s. Airbus began strongly without creating many chances from open play, although Lewis broke the dead lock scoring twice from two corners. The first half ended 5-1 with goals from Tommy Joyce, Luke Farron & Kaiden Cooke. Colwyn Bay broke and scored just before half time. The second half followed the same pattern, although Airbus changed shape slightly to see how the lads adapted. Airbus played some great stuff throughout the day & Scored a few more in the second half with the goal of the day from Taylor Edwards. The score finished 10-1 on our last game before the festive break.

Player of the week:

Tommy Joyce - Securing his hat track in the second half topped off his performance on and off the ball throughout this game.
