Holywell Town FC Preview

We welcome Holywell Town FC to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium for R2 of the WBS Cup
A break from league football is on the cards this weekend as we host fellow JD Cymru North side Holywell Town in Round 2 of the WBS Leage Cup.

Round 1 seems like an age ago, where we met another JD Cymru North side Mold Alex. The Alex travelled to Airbus on the 29th August and after the visitors taking an early lead through Owen Cordiner, Airbus staged a comeback to progress into round 2. Mason Blackwell-Jones equalised for the WingMakers as they headed into half time level.

Airbus took their chance for an early goal in the second half, as they took the lead through ex-Mold frontman Danny Warren. The game was put to bed 3 minutes from time as George Peers made it 3-1 and the Wingmakers progressed to the next round.

Jordan Evans is looking to defend Airbus’ cup title, “With a break from the league this weekend, this is a cup we want to go and be successful in again, so we are fully focused for the job at hand.

We’ve formed a really good rivalry with Holywell in recent times, competing with them at the top end of the league and in cup competitions, so it’s always a fixture to look forward to regardless of competition.

We are currently on a good run, playing well and getting back to ourselves after a bit of a dip before Christmas, so the mood in the camp is high heading into this game.

As always there is a respect there for a good team who score a lot of goals and defend well, but hopefully we carry on our momentum and get through to the next round of the competition”

Our visitors in the first round took the long trip to another JD Cymru North side Penryhncoch. After a cagey game with no goals, Holywell made the breakthrough with 15 minutes remaining as their top goal scorer this season Jamie Breese broke the deadlock. Five minutes later, Breese had his brace, as he made it 2-0 to the Wellmen and confirmed their progress into the second round.

Mark Allen knows it will be a tough game, “We are very much looking to progress through to the next round on Saturday. However, we know that it will be a difficult challenging game against Holywell.

The game earlier in the season both teams were disrupted by the wind and ruined a usually competitive fixture. Saturday, we know it will be different and that we will have to be at our best to get the correct result”
