Quarter Final action for Airbus in the NEWFA Men’s Senior Challenge Cup
With a weekend free from the league, the WingMakers turn their attention to the quarter final of the NEWFA Men’s Senior Challenge Cup as they take a trip to Ruthin Town FC in Tuesday evening.
Last round, Airbus played fellow JD Cymru North side Gresford Athletic at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium.
On a very cold and windy Tuesday evening, as the weather affected both teams to get going. Once the ball was played in the air, the wind had other ideas and sent the ball backwards.
After an uneventful first half, Airbus were forced into a half substitution where Jordan Evans replaced injured Nath Williams.
It was Jordan Evans that made the breakthrough on the night. As we entered the last 15 minutes of the 90, Airbus won themselves a corner from some very good play from James Davies. From the resulting corner, Evans’ delivery was spot on as his corner kick found it’s way into the back of the net.
Our hosts had a comfortable win against Lex XI in the previous round as they scored four to progress and set up a tie with Airbus.
Dan Cox gave them an early lead on 26 as he converted a pass from Noah Sumner. Ruthin were two nil up just after half an hour as Tom Mann doubled their lead.
Just before half time Ruthin were awarded a spot kick which Daniel Holland stepped up to take but unfortunately couldn’t increase their lead.
With 15 minutes remaining, Holland made up for his penalty miss as he made it 3 for Ruthin with the assist coming from 16-year-old Jacob Lloyd.
The game was wrapped up in the 84th minute from Airbus loanee Tom Dougherty as he made it 4-0 to Ruthin to progress to the quarter finals.
