Gresford Athletic FC Preview
Back to League action after Cup win last weekend
Friday we return to league action and our first game under the lights for 2026. We welcome our visitors Gresford who will see The Hollingsworth Group Stadium as home from home.
Our reverse fixture with Gresford was also a game under the lights and Dan Collins is looking forward to the fixture, “Very excited for Friday’s fixture against Gresford. After spending the last six months there, they are lads who work for each other and recently they have hit a good run of form, so we will have to be on it from the start.
We are hoping to carry on the winning streak after a good win last week against Holywell. We will prepare properly and hope to keep this positive momentum going”
The fixture back in September finished with 5-2 scoreline in favour of Airbus. They took the lead early on when a cross/shot from George Peers was put into his own net by Louis Holden. Airbus should have been a few goals up before they got their second, a delivery from a corner was met by the towering force Josh Stevenson to double Airbus lead.
Just before the half time break, Mason Blackwell-Jones added a third goal in injury time and a perfectly placed shot from the edge of the box settled in the side of the net past Lewis Dutton.
Jake Roberts pulled one back after half time for Gresford, before another own goal from Holden and a penalty from Peers gave Airbus a 5-1 lead.
Gresford did get a second goal in the 92nd minute through Toby Gallagher Keenan to see the game finish 5-2 to Airbus.
We face Gresford on Friday night with a change of management with Dave Evans taking the reins, which has seen them put a run together with 2 wins, a draw and 2 losses out of 5 games. This form has seen Gresford claw themselves out of the relegation zone.
