JD Welsh Cup action for the WingMakers
Saturday sees Airbus start their journey in the JD Welsh Cup as they take the trip to fellow JD Cymru North side Holyhead Hotspur.
Last season, the WingMakers bowed at the quarter final stage to eventual winners TNS.
After a bye in the first found last season, we took on Porthmadog in the second round with goals coming from Tyler McManus and James Davies in a 2-0 win.
The win in the second round gave us a home tie in the third round against Goytre, with a convincing 7-1 win to progress to the next round with a hat-trick from Oli Lanceley, a double from George Peers and Jordan Evans and Sam Baker adding to the scoreline.
Fourth round we welcomed Caersws to the Hollingsworth Group Stadium, which was a tough game as a goal from Jordan Evans separated the sides in the second half, but Jake Eyre added an injury time goal to give Airbus the win.
The quarter finals we were given a tough tie as we made the journey to TNS to take on the then current Welsh Champions. Airbus did well in the first half to limit the JD Cymru Premier side, but just before half time Airbus conceded and this changed the course of the game as in the second half they scored 4 more goals to progress to the semi finals.
Airbus forward Oli Lanceley is hoping to they get a run in the cup this season, “Really looking forward to the game on Saturday, it’s always nice to take a step back from the league and focus on a cup competition.
It’s important that we keep up momentum in this competition and hopefully we’ll be able to get the job done on Saturday”
