Penultimate game ends in a share of the points

By Jack Dane

It was a frustrating afternoon for the home side and perhaps the poorest performance in recent weeks as a run of eight consecutive wins is spoiled with honours shared against Buckley.

The first big chance of the game fell for Buckley as a through ball down the right beat our defensive line allowing for a dangerous cross but the shot was wide.

Big tackles didn’t take long to emerge in this local rivalry with Mccormick lucky not to have seen red as he lunged in with two feet off the ground.

This time a free kick in a dangerous area for the home side. Palmer with a ball deep to the back post but just too high for an emerging McManus.

Both sides looking to create chances but this time it was Airbus causing issues.

Linfield unleashed a pearl first time pass down the right flank. A deep ball into the box cleared all defenders and somehow found the man who started the move at the back post. His shot was blocked leading to a rebound hitting the bar.

The ball then was cleared before K.Evans delivered a cross into the box to find Linfield who made contact unbelievably with his head but that too hit the bar before the follow up is cleared on the line.

Finally, Cooke decided enough is enough and coolly slotted to give Airbus the lead.

A chance finally for the visitors, Bellis sent a half volley from outside the box. It was uncomfortably low and to Jones’ right, but he did well to parry a bouncing ball.

Brilliant football on display from Airbus to double the lead. Played out from the back and a through ball from Linfield found the feet of Rushton. He took a sublime touch right to beat the keeper and tapped a tight angle to add a comfort goal

Airbus took their two goal advantage into half time.

Airbus came out firing with Cooke sending a floater to the back post meeting the head of James Davies but his attempt hit the roof of the net.

Free kick for Buckley with a right footed curled effort and again its awkward to deal with as it hits Jones' chest to go for a corner.

Littler fired a low effort into the bottom corner which Jones dealt with.

Buckley scored from the resulting corner as Humphries clears all to be the highest and head the ball into the net.

Cooke had all the joy down the right side as the Buckley defence didn’t have the speed to catch him but another good ball across the face fails to be converted and Lindfield's follow up attempt was timid.

Good three man move down the right as Cooke, McManus and Edwards linked up but again the cross which looked to be ending up in the net just glances the face of goal.

Poor from a set piece again. A corner from the right came into the box and initial shouts for a foul against Airbus were ignored and a header then floated over Jones hitting the bar and landing in the arms of Hamilton who appeared to slap in the equaliser

A disappointing second half with two goals gifted was the difference as a game which was all but seen out suddenly turned on its head ending in shared points.
